Americans are “plugged in” to EVs in 2023, says Mr. Electric survey

WACO, Texas — Twenty percent of U.S. homeowners are likely to upgrade or purchase electric vehicles in 2023, according to data from Mr. Electric®, a Neighborly® company, which delivers comprehensive electrical services for homes and businesses throughout North America. These results come from a Mr. Electric consumer survey, conducted in February 2023, to gauge consumer sentiment around common electric services, including Electrical Vehicle (EV) charging stations.

When it comes to ease of use, 63% of respondents would most prefer to charge their vehicle at home. Shockingly, only 15% of those surveyed said their workplace provides EV charging stations. While businesses work to meet the needs of EV-owning employees, residential installation is more important than ever.

Recharging your home

Although more than half (53%) of surveyed U.S. homeowners would be likely to install a home charging station after purchasing an electric vehicle (with 26% saying they’d be very likely), 79% do not feel confident about installing one themselves. Mr. Electric aims to guide these homeowners by providing insight into necessary electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) and expert installation.

“EVs continue to gain popularity and charging station installations are becoming more in-demand than ever,” said Joel Worthington, president of Mr. Electric. “At Mr. Electric, we’re working hard to address the need for the safe installation of EV chargers by providing expert installation and consultation in addition to comprehensive electrical services in homes and businesses.”

The survey also asked about other ways homeowners can amp up their homes in 2023:

  • Surge protection – only 14% of U.S. homeowners surveyed have whole-home protection. Power surges can compromise any plugged-in device and whole-home protection helps eliminate risk.
  • Electrical panels – 44% of homeowners surveyed say that the most appealing benefit of upgrading electrical panels is energy efficiency/cost savings.
  • Backup generators – In the event of a power outage, home generators help you to stay safe and comfortable until power is restored. Only 23% of surveyed U.S. homeowners currently have a backup generator.
  • Carbon monoxide detectors – 80% of U.S. homeowners surveyed agree that it’s important to have carbon monoxide detectors in their homes.

“A lot of homeowners don’t realize how important it is to update your electrical panel every 10 years,” said Worthington. “Forty-four percent say the biggest benefit of electrical panel upgrades is energy efficiency/cost savings as an old panel may be draining the system. Among other concerns such as outages, incidents and fires, it’s essential for homeowners to get their panels inspected regularly.”

2023 Economic Outlook Shows Franchise Job and Unit Growth Trends Ahead of Pre-Pandemic Levels

New IFA report shows franchises to add 254,000 jobs, 15,000 new independent businesses this year, despite economic headwinds.

WASHINGTON, March 28, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The International Franchise Association (IFA) today released its 2023 Franchising Economic Outlook report, showing that franchise unit and job growth continues to outpace pre-pandemic levels, delivering jobs and business ownership opportunities across the United States, despite economic uncertainty across all industries and in daily life. The report highlights the impacts of today’s unique economic challenges, which have affected system growth and led to an increase in wages, among other factors.

“Even with today’s economic headwinds, franchised businesses continue to grow, providing more good-paying jobs for their employees, and serving their local communities,” said IFA President and CEO Matt Haller. “After an historic year of growth during the post-pandemic recovery, the size of the franchise economy in 2023 will exceed pre-pandemic levels – demonstrating the power of the business model for prospective business owners when franchisors and franchisees work together.”

Key highlights from the report include:

  • The overall number of franchise establishments will increase by almost 15,000 units in 2023, or 1.9%, to 805,000 units in the U.S.
  • Franchising will add approximately 254,000 jobs in 2023. Growing at 3.0%, total franchise employment is forecasted to reach 8.7 million.
  • The total output of franchised businesses — the measure of total economic activity in nominal dollars — will increase by 4.2% to $860.1 billion in 2023, up from $825.4 billion in 2022.
  • Franchises’ GDP share of the overall economy will remain stable at 3%. Compared with 2022, franchises’ GDP — the monetary value of all the finished goods and services produced within U.S. borders — will grow at a slightly slower pace of 4.2% to $521.3 billion.
  • Service-based industries and quick-service restaurants will witness higher growth than other industries.

Conducted by FRANdata, the 2023 Franchising Economic Outlook is IFA’s annual study detailing the franchise sector’s performance for the past year and projected economic outlook for the year ahead, as well as an in-depth state outlook for all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

According to Oxford Economics, franchises pay nearly 3 percent higher wages than similar independent companies and offer greater benefits and more generous leave. Franchising creates unparalleled entrepreneurial opportunities for underrepresented communities, and nearly one-third of franchise business owners say they wouldn’t own a business without franchising.

Leading commercial cleaning franchisees set company record, collectively exceeding more than $100M in annual sales.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Anago Cleaning Systems recognized its U.S. and Canadian Master Franchise partners during its annual seminar in Pompano Beach, FL. The seminar’s highlight was the brand’s announcement that all Master Franchise territories had collectively met and exceeded last year’s $100M Challenge, which aimed at investing in people and technology. The $100M Challenge focused on increasing business processes, inflationary price protections, sales & leadership recruitment and training, and franchise development aimed at systems that make the dream of small business ownership a reality for more people.

This year, Anago inducted twelve Master Franchisees into the Million-Dollar Club, each producing at least $1M in revenues, with several exceeding this target. Additionally recognized were the Multi-Million Dollar Club inductees, which included ten territories reaching $2M, two with $3M in revenues, six with $4M, three earning $5M, one territory reaching $6M, and one with over $7M in revenues.
