Spruce Up Your Holiday Decoration Storage with These 6 No-Hassle Hacks from Garage Living

2023-12-18T20:41:31-05:00December 18th, 2023|Tags: , , |

TORONTO — As the holiday season nears its end, the daunting task of packing away decorations looms. Suppose you’re like most people and have a bunch of jingle-jangle-jumbles creating a mess of decorations in the garage, making next year’s unpacking even more challenging. The professionals at Garage Living offer these six tips to avoid getting a lump of clutter coal from Santa.

1. Maximize vertical space with overhead racks.

Make the most of your garage space by installing overhead storage racks. These racks utilize vertical storage, keeping bulky items like artificial Christmas trees, wreaths and lights neatly stashed. This frees up valuable floor space for a smoother daily routine.

2.  Be selective about garage storage.

While the garage is suitable for many decorations, avoid storing fabric-based items, candles, delicate glass ornaments or food-based decorations unless the space is climate-controlled. Sealing in plastic containers and avoiding clear bins for light-sensitive items helps preserve stored decorations’ integrity.

3.  Choose plastic over cardboard.

Opt for sturdy plastic storage bins instead of cardboard boxes. Plastic bins provide better protection, stack more securely and are moisture-resistant. Consider using non-clear containers with labels to prevent color fading for long-lasting holiday ornaments and lights.

4.  Embrace organization with labels.

Simplify the unpacking process next holiday by using color-coded storage containers and ensuring each item is properly labeled. Eliminating guesswork saves time when decorating and keeps the holiday setup stress-free and enjoyable.

5.  Use Near-field communication stickers on bins.

NFC tags are little chips that store data, and sticker versions are available for just a few cents apiece online. You can keep a detailed, itemized list (or photos) of everything in a storage box on a chip and stick it to the outside of your bin. In a few simple additional steps, you can scan your phone over the sticker and see everything inside without ever opening the bin.

6.  Store artificial Christmas trees mindfully.

Store artificial Christmas trees in a proper plastic tree storage bag or bin with wheels for easy transport. Avoid leaving trees uncovered in the garage, as they can accumulate dust over time. Be cautious with white or snow-treated trees, as improper storage conditions may lead to yellowing and a shorter lifespan.

Implement these six tips, and you’ll not only transform your garage space but guarantee a hassle-free and joyous reunion with your decorations next year.

Temporary Wall Systems South Jersey owner earns a CARES Award at franchisee convention

2024-01-15T12:51:39-05:00December 14th, 2023|Tags: , , , , |

Local owner Sam Adler was honored with the award for his outstanding character and dedication to HomeFront Brands’ superior service

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Temporary Wall Systems South Jersey owner Sam Adler was presented with the HomeFront Brands’ prestigious CARES Award for his dedication to the principles of the franchising company’s values.

HomeFront Brands, the property service franchise platform with six emerging concepts in its portfolio, hosted its inaugural convention in Charlotte, North Carolina last month. The company presented this prestigious award to outstanding franchise owners from four of its core brands: Temporary Wall Systems, Top Rail Fence, The Designery and Window Hero.

The CARES Award is named for the company’s core values of community, accountability, respect, excellence and service and is determined by a vote of the franchisee community at the event.

Sam Adler’s commitment to the South Jersey community and to HomeFront Brands’ value system is more than exceptional,” said HomeFront Brands Chairman and CEO Jeff Dudan. “HomeFront Brands has seen tremendous growth over the last year and Sam’s hard work and unwavering dedication has been a contributing factor in that success. This award is a testament to his outstanding character and willingness to go that extra mile.”

Adler’s TWS location opened in September after he saw a need in the South Jersey area for a containment management system that reduced landfill waste and controlled construction debris in an aesthetically pleasing manner. He said that these reusable walls also meet the Infection Control Risk Assessment Class V (ICRA V) Best Practices in Health Care Construction, so they are ideal to use in hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

“Winning an award is already a wonderful experience, but to be honored because you were recognized by your peers is an incredibly humbling experience,” Adler said. “I saw a need in my community for a reusable and temporary wall system and set out to provide that service. I’m grateful that my vision has been noticed by others in my franchising family.”

Before opening his TWS location, Adler worked in executive leadership positions for the majority of his entire professional life. His entrepreneurial spirit is matched by his sense of community. He hopes Temporary Wall Systems South Jersey will continue to work as a vehicle for community empowerment by providing employment opportunities and contributing to local causes.

The Designery North Raleigh owners win CARES Award at franchising convention

2023-12-14T17:33:09-05:00December 14th, 2023|Tags: , , , , |

HomeFront Brands presented Dana and Anne-Louise Merrill with the prestigious award for their dedication to the North Carolina communities they serve

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Designery North Raleigh’s owners Dana and Anne-Louise Merrill were presented with the prestigious CARES Award at HomeFront Brands’ inaugural franchisee convention earlier this month for the couple’s commitment to the franchisor’s values.

The CARES Award, named for the company’s core values of community, accountability, respect, excellence and service, is given to a HomeFront Brand’s franchisee that has captured the admiration of the company’s other franchisees. The award winner is determined by a vote of the franchisee community at the company’s Homecoming Convention held at its headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“Dana and Anne-Louise have not only won the approval of their fellow franchisees, they also personify the very essence of our value system,” said HomeFront Brands Chairman and CEO Jeff Dudan. “Since HomeFront Brands’ inception in 2022, we have seen an explosive expansion, and franchisees like the Merrills have been the driving force behind our remarkable success. They are a shining example of dedication and hard work.”

HomeFront Brands presented a CARES Award to a franchise owner from four of its most prolific brands, including The Designery, Top Rail Fence, Window Hero and Temporary Wall Systems.

“It’s such an honor to be chosen as The Designery’s CARES Award recipient by a vote of our peers,” Dana Merrill said. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to receive this award. Our aim has always been to create  beautiful living spaces that transform houses into homes for North Raleigh residents. The recognition of this achievement by our fellow franchise owners is truly humbling.”

The Merrills have been providing service to the area for several months but will host a grand opening of their new showroom in 2024.

“It’s been a remarkable journey,” Anne-Louise Merrill said. “We’re thrilled to be a member of the HomeFront Brands family and can’t wait to reach more potential clients with the opening of our new Designery showroom in March.”

The Merrills own and operate their Designery location themselves, and the couple’s son, True Merrill, works as the company’s project manager and designer. Dana Merrill spent his professional life as a project and portfolio manager for such Fortune 500 companies as Fidelity Investments and MetLife before investing in his own business.

Mentorship Programs Counter Talent Drain at US Businesses

2023-12-13T21:46:11-05:00December 13th, 2023|Tags: , , , |

Latest Results from The Harris Poll

OKLAHOMA CITY — Most American companies have lost employees to retirement the past two years, taking valuable institutional knowledge and experience with them.

One possible solution? Mentorship programs.

While not a new concept, mentorship programs are gaining popularity as a way to combat this brain drain (i.e., when older employees retire without sharing knowledge of how to do their job to younger generations) and accelerate recruiting and retention in the current prolonged labor shortage.

This is according to a recent survey from The Harris Poll commissioned by Express Employment Professionals.

U.S. hiring managers report the top reasons for retiring at their company as reaching what employees believe to be retirement age (65+ years old) (47%), no longer wanting to work (40%) and feeling they have enough money saved to retire (39%).

Job seekers’ perceptions regarding reasons for retirement are similarly aligned — feeling they have enough money saved to retire (58%), reaching what they believe to be retirement age (65+ years old) (53%) and no longer wanting to work (51%).

Regardless of the age of retirement, hiring managers and job seekers agree employees should retire whenever they are financially able to do so (84% and 85%, respectively).

Benefits of Mentorship

Although many companies don’t currently offer mentorship programs, hiring managers and job seekers see the benefits in doing so.

Around two-thirds of hiring managers (64%) say their company currently offers on-the-job training/upskilling followed by mentorship programs (40%) and reskilling (31%). Among those that offer mentorship programs, most cite doing so as a means of upskilling/reskilling employees (81%).

Around half offer this program to attract prospective employees (53%) and cultivate greater connection between employees (52%). Additionally, around 2 in 5 companies offer it to reduce brain drain (41%) and keep older employees engaged (40%).

For companies that do not currently have a mentorship program in place, more than half (52%) say they are likely to do so in the next two years.

Hiring managers who have not implemented mentorships feel the ability to upskill/reskill employees (54%), attract prospective employees (34%) and cultivate greater connections between employees (30%) are among the top benefits of offering the program in the future. Job seekers believe similar benefits are available when offering mentorship programs: upskill/reskill employees (70%), cultivate greater connections between employees (49%) and reduce brain drain (43%).

Around 4 in 5 hiring managers (82%) believe job candidates are more attracted to companies offering mentorship programs — 85% of job seekers concur; companies are more attractive to them if they offer a mentorship program.

And, as employees retire and companies search for a method to bridge the potential knowledge gap, mentorships may prove to be a viable option. More than 4 in 5 hiring managers (83%) feel these programs are absolutely essential in reducing “brain drain.”

“A mentorship program in companies is like a shortcut to success,” said Bill Stoller, Express Employment International CEO. “It’s a practical way to transfer knowledge, refine skills and foster a culture of continuous improvement. By connecting experienced individuals with those eager to learn, companies not only boost employee development but also build a stronger, more collaborative workforce.”

Leading Provider of Printing Supplies and Solutions Aims to Drive Growth and Empower Innovation with New CMO

NEW YORK — Cartridge World America, the leading essential service provider for printing supplies, services, and solutions, is beginning the new year with a brand-new marketing strategy, starting with the recent hiring of an executive leader to oversee its implementation. The company has named Grant Gooley, a seasoned marketer, entrepreneur, and innovator, into the role of Chief Marketing Officer with a vision to revolutionize the brand’s approach to business and consumer engagement.

Gooley brings more than 15 years of executive marketing leadership to his new role, a career in which his entrepreneurial spirit and a deep understanding of consumer needs has led to the successes of several Fortune 500 franchises. As the founder of MyPortal Marketing and MyPortal Virtual Assistants, he has demonstrated an exceptional ability to envision and actualize strategies that resonate with both businesses and consumers.

“As Cartridge World’s CMO, I’m not just thinking about our products; I’m focusing on our people – especially our franchisees. Together, we’re doing more than simply selling products; we’re building a brand that stands for reliability and opportunity.”

As Cartridge World’s CMO, Gooley is set to overhaul the brand’s marketing materials, systems, and techniques. His approach is centered on modernizing the brand to enhance the consumer experience and provide value-driven solutions, particularly in Managed Print Services. This strategy is not only designed to benefit legacy franchise owners, but also to attract and empower new franchisees with the tools and insights necessary for running a successful business.

Gooley also is implementing a heavy focus on content marketing and social media utilization to bring the brand to the modern day. Gooley’s Master’s Degree in Consumer Behavior has trained him to be an expert in what consumers want and plans to focus in on what franchisees can do on individual levels to get consumers what they want and need in their toner and printer product and service provider.

Window Hero cleans up East Tennessee with its West Knoxville location

2023-12-12T18:37:17-05:00December 12th, 2023|Tags: , , , , , |

Owner Ben Brown gives back to his community by providing free exterior cleaning services to area schools

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — When Ben Brown decided to open his West Knoxville location of Window Hero, a HomeFront Brands franchise specializing in a wide range of exterior cleaning services, his goal to give back to the community was as strong as his desire to own his own business.

In the eight months that Window Hero West Knoxville has been in operation, Brown has been able to make a splash in the community by cleaning the exteriors of five schools in the community with the goal of revitalizing and enhancing the appearance of these schools’ campuses.

A.L. Lotts Elementary School, Cedar Bluff Elementary School, Farragut Primary School, Hardin Valley Elementary School, and Rocky Hill Elementary School all received a full-service cleaning that included pressure washing sidewalks, cleaning windows, and soft washing a specific area of the building. Window Hero West Knoxville also pressure washed the schools’ signs to make them look like new.

The company also cleaned the sidewalks and entryways at Northshore Elementary School, which welcomed Brown as its “Principal for a Day” on Nov. 16. Principal for a Day is a half-day experience that connects business leaders with Knox County Schools’ principals to open the lines of communication between public education and the community.

“Opening a Window Hero complemented my personal goals of giving back to the community that means so much to me,” Brown said. “I always wanted to find ways to impact my community while also building a reputation as a trusted property service provider. My involvement with Window Hero has allowed me to do that.”

Brown said that Window Hero’s founder, Tyler Kirk, and Jeff Dudan, chairman and CEO of Window Hero’s parent company, HomeFront Brands, have provided a strong franchise culture that not only promotes success but also encourages community involvement.

And for Brown, who spent most of his career in software sales and business development, making the change to entrepreneurship was a daunting task made easier by the HomeFront Brands team.

“The HomeFront Brands crew provides franchisees like me the guidance and time needed to be successful,” he said. “The reason why so many mom-and-pop businesses fail is that they don’t understand how to scale their growth.
