Illinois Resident Receives FirstLight’s Caregiver of the Year Award

2021-12-21T10:13:46-05:00December 21st, 2021|Tags: , , , , |

The national home care company recognizes Cathy Cahill for her selflessness in caring for clients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

MCHENRY, Ill.FirstLight Home Care, an award-winning provider of non-medical home care, has named Cathy Cahill of McHenry, Ill. as its National Caregiver of the Year.

Cahill was recognized during a ceremony at FirstLight’s national conference in Salt Lake City, Utah last month. She was nominated for the award by Sande Sherman, the owner of FirstLight Home Care of McHenry County.

“Cathy is the embodiment of what people look for when they want to hire a caregiver,” Sherman said. “She is selfless, flexible and invested. When the husband of one of our clients was hospitalized due to COVID-19 complications, Cathy put her life on hold to stay with his wife, who has dementia and was also COVID positive. Cathy even slept in the same room with the wife to ensure her safety and comfort.”

“Cathy is also our go-to when we need someone to fill in. She really gets to know her clients’ special preferences and brings them their favorite ice cream, soup or candy bar,” Sherman said. “She is a treasured member of our FirstLight family and absolutely deserves this recognition because she is living our culture every day.”

Nominations for the award were received from FirstLight offices across the United States. Caregiver of the Year nominees were evaluated based on dependability, advocacy, empathy, quality of service and compassion toward clients.

FirstLight caregivers help seniors and other adults in need of assistance with personal care and household duties such as cooking, cleaning and running errands. The FirstLight franchise network includes nearly 200 independently owned and operated home care locations across the U.S. and Canada.

Interim HealthCare Inc. Names 2021 Therapist of the Year

2021-12-21T09:55:16-05:00December 21st, 2021|Tags: , , , , |

Sonia Berry of Easley, South Carolina commended for resilient positivity and determination to help all patients heal.

SUNRISE, Fla. — Interim HealthCare Inc., the nation’s leading franchise network of home care, senior care, home health, hospice and healthcare staffing services, names Sonia Berry, occupational therapist, as the 2021 Therapist of the Year. This honor is given to an individual who embodies Interim HealthCare’s core values of integrity, compassion and patient focus.

Sonia earned widespread appreciation from patients and leaders for her resilient positivity, determination to help all patients heal, and the support she’s given to the mission of the organization.

“Sonia can first and foremost be described as one committed to enriching lives. As a therapy leader, she shares information in a positive light,” said Katherine Craven, RN, clinical director for Interim HealthCare of the Upstate. “Whether it’s policies and procedures or new processes, she helps each member of the team understand the impact of our care and how they can work toward a positive outcome for patients and the organization.”

Since joining Interim HealthCare of the Upstate in 2018, Sonia has gained the respect of coworkers and patients through her kind nature and team player mentality. Sonia is always an advocate, willing to go above and beyond to see patients in all rural areas. She has exceptional clinical judgment and compassion in caring and is trusted among her peers and leadership to manage the most complex of clinical needs.

Having access to quality occupational therapy in the home is a critical part of the care continuum, as it places patients on the path to improved health and wellness and can prevent hospitalizations. Therapists also play an integral role on the care team and in helping people regain their mobility and independence.

Therapists like Sonia who are dedicated to the excellence of in-home care are changing the way Americans view healthcare. Recent data from Interim HealthCare and The Harris Poll revealed that 65% of Americans would have considered home healthcare as an alternative to a hospital stay in the past if they had known it was an option. This is one of many recent data points gathered, showcasing the shifting mindset of consumers regarding home healthcare.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to help patients overcome challenges in their daily lives,” said Sonia Berry. “In all aspects of healthcare, the outcome of the patient is always the main priority and helping patients find their way back to health and happiness is extremely rewarding. I’m honored to be recognized as Therapist of the Year and look forward to continuing to provide the best care to my community.”

In honor of the work that therapists like Sonia do in the home healthcare setting, Interim HealthCare celebrated National Home Care & Hospice Month by inviting the public to discover the unique benefits and full continuum of care available with home healthcare through its campaign, “The Difference is Home.”

East Coast Wings + Grill Signs Franchise Partners to Expand in Northern Virginia

2021-12-21T09:31:32-05:00December 21st, 2021|Tags: , , |

Local Entrepreneurs to Fill a Need for a Family-Dining Restaurant in the Area.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — East Coast Wings + Grill (ECW+G), a full-service and family-dining restaurant renowned for its variety of buffalo wing sauces and heat indexes, announced Lisa and David Ware III will join the franchise system after signing a single-unit franchise agreement to open a restaurant in Northern Virginia.

Lisa Ware, who is a school counselor with an area school system, and David Ware III, who is an IT consultant, chose ECW+G because they felt there wasn’t a good restaurant option in their community to order wings and watch sports in a family-dining atmosphere – an issue they expect to fill with their new location. The husband-and-wife franchise partners had also always wanted to own their own restaurant, especially with David growing up in a family-run barbecue restaurant and catering business.

“I discovered East Coast Wings + Grill during one of my work trips in Charlotte, and was impressed with the extraordinary hospitality, experience and quality of the product – and I’m very critical when it comes to restaurants,” said David Ware III, noting he has high food quality and service expectations due to his restaurant background. “We look forward to bringing this family-dining concept to Northern Virginia to fill a need for this type of concept blending the many things our community loves: premium food, watching sports and bringing families together.”

The Northern Virginia location can create jobs for 25 to 30 individuals. Opening an ECW+G restaurant creates the opportunity for community-oriented sponsorships and local events. Known for its high-quality wings that come in over 55+ flavors and 7 heat indexes, ECW+G offers a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere to bring the family, enjoy a game, or pick up convenient carry out options.

“We are happy to have Lisa and David join our franchise system, and grow our presence in Northern Virginia, a key market for our growth in the state,” says Mark Lyso, Chief Development Officer of East Coast Wings + Grill. “With the brand’s structured discipline and the systems commitment to unit economics, coupled with their backgrounds and passion for the restaurant business, we look forward to growing our footprint in Northern Virginia in 2022.”

East Coast Wings + Grill is a full-service, family-dining franchise that spotlights Buffalo wings. The thoughtfully-crafted menu also offers a variety of other options to satisfy every family member’s taste buds. With more than 60-nationwide locations currently operating or in various stages of development, the franchise recently secured a top spot on Restaurant Business Magazine’s “Future 50” list of fastest-growing, U.S. mid-sized restaurant chains for the second-consecutive year. Entrepreneur magazine also named East Coast Wings + Grill one of the nation’s top franchise investments, and Franchise Times magazine ranked the company No. 383 on its “Top 200+” list of top revenue-producing U.S. franchises. The concept has also been recognized by The Franchise Grade and Franchise Business Review for transparency during the franchise sales process, franchisee support and overall franchisee satisfaction. Cannabis Franchise Kicks Off Local Expansion in South Dakota; Now Developing in Nine States.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Unity Rd., the cannabis dispensary franchise from Item 9 Labs Corp. (OTCQX: INLB), announced today the signing of an agreement that will bring the brand’s first shop to South Dakota. The retailer has partnered with local serial entrepreneur BJ Olson and his business partner to develop at least one Unity Rd. shop in the state. The Unity Rd. team is currently guiding them through the state’s dispensary license process.

Previously a multi-unit franchisee in the technology repair space, Olson’s entrepreneurial career spans multiple industries, including wireless technology, retail and clothing.

“Signing on with Unity Rd. was a no brainer,” explained Olson. “Though I have a deep entrepreneurial background and experience in retail, I know operating a dispensary adds a significant level of intricacies to navigate. Unity Rd. reduces hurdles and provides a proven playbook on how to be a successful, compliant and resourceful leader in our market.”

Olson and his partner are true believers in the power of cannabis, both directly experiencing the medicinal benefits of the plant first-hand. Olson added, “The education component is huge for my business partner and I. We want to bring an education-first approach to our shopping experience and Unity Rd. offers the continued training our team will need to provide true, high-level knowledge to our community.”

South Dakota recently began allowing physicians to certify medical cannabis patients and several municipalities have started approving dispensary licenses before they go to the state level for final consideration. Entrance into South Dakota marks nine states, from coast-to-coast, where Unity Rd. has agreements signed with local entrepreneurs to bring the brand to their home markets.

“Unity Rd. is the intersection of where local business ownership meets cannabis,” shared Mike Weinberger, Chief Franchise Officer at Unity Rd. “Adding partners such as BJ to our team who believe in the power of cannabis and are seasoned entrepreneurs, validates Unity Rd. as an industry trailblazer ripe for growth.”

Unity Rd. offers the safest route for cannabis entrepreneurs interested in staking their claim in an industry that’s bursting with potential. The dispensary franchise’s time-tested Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and veteran team, with a combined 120+ years of cannabis experience, guide franchise partners through every operational function of the business, whether it be securing a license or assisting with cash flow, product selection or changing regulations.

Industry newcomers have deemed Unity Rd. the go-to franchise opportunity for entering and navigating the complex cannabis industry. The marijuana dispensary franchise is actively seeking qualified partners who would benefit from the systems, processes and ongoing support the franchise offers. As it stands, Unity Rd. currently has multiple agreements signed with nearly 20 entrepreneurial groups who are in various stages of development nationwide.

Unity Rd. is bridging the two previously disconnected worlds of cannabis and franchising. The industry trailblazer is the first to bring the cannabis dispensary franchise model to the United States—with duality of prowess in both industries to back it up. Built up from a collective 200 years in the legal cannabis industry and franchising, the company helps eager operators enter the complex industry with ease. The marijuana franchise pioneer offers its partners the knowledge, resources, and ongoing support needed to compliantly and successfully operate a dispensary. Launched in 2018, Unity Rd. has signed multiple agreements with more than 15 entrepreneurial groups across the country. Recently, it was named one of the top cannabis retail leaders in the nation by MJBizDaily magazine and one of the “Best Cannabis Companies to Work For” in both the dispensary and cultivation categories in Cannabis Business Times’ elite 2020 list. The company is also the first cannabis business to earn a Franchise Times Dealmakers award. For more information, visit

Huntington Learning Center Experiences Immense Growth as Tutoring Demand Surges, Highlights Franchisee Success in Local Markets

2021-12-17T10:48:47-05:00December 17th, 2021|Tags: , , , |

World-Class Support Systems & Multiple Revenue Streams Create Opportunity and YOY Growth for Franchisees.

ORADELL, N.J.Huntington Learning Center, the nation’s leading K-12 tutoring and test preparation provider, reports on immense growth brand-wide as the demand for tutoring services skyrockets, with franchisees reporting their best years yet in terms of sales. Over the past 21 months, Huntington Learning Center has rolled out new programs, support systems, and tools equipping franchisees to meet demand and handle the learning loss crisis head on, while franchisees have taken community relationships and internal marketing strategies to the next level coming out of the pandemic. As a result, franchisee average unit volume is now 46% higher than that of the competition – fueling interest in the franchise opportunity.

As the pandemic began taking its toll on brick-and-mortar operations worldwide, Huntington Learning Center acted quickly to adjust its services for franchisees – launching HuntingtonHelps LIVE, a 100% online tutoring service, Huntington Study Hall, which allows centers to safely open for students to go and attend virtual school while being proctored by a Huntington tutor and Huntington Homework Help and Huntington Performance Coach, tools that enhanced learning based on assessments and communication with local schools to target key subject areas for each student, and provided sessions for students specifically targeting task maintenance and organization.

As a result of the new services and programs launched, in addition to individualized marketing efforts within the local communities they serve, Huntington Learning Center franchisees were able to maintain their tutoring businesses throughout the pandemic, with many now seeing sales and revenue numbers that are back to or exceeding what they were in 2019.

One franchisee, Troy Ingle, an Air Force veteran and past engineer, has owned his Huntington Learning Center in Fleming Island, Florida for the past five years, and he reports that 2021 has been the best year yet for his business. Creating the online tutoring option swiftly and efficiently during a critical time during the COVID pandemic in 2020 allowed for his business to be shut down for less than two months before he was able to regain students and families at his center. In addition to receiving the support from Huntington Learning Center to set his business up for success, Ingle is an active member of his community – serving on multiple school board advisory councils and assisting with providing job readiness interview opportunities to junior and senior-level high school kids.

October 2021 proved to be the best month for business in my five-year span of owning my Huntington Learning Center business,” said Ingle. “With the new programs put into place by Huntington, combined with the curriculum and operational support I have access to, I’ve been able to experience my best year yet –but I’ve also been able to better serve my community as a strong community resource for students and families. Keeping an open line of communication with local schools, teachers and parents of the students at Huntington has allowed me to establish and maintain key relationships that allow me to reach more students’ lives in the community.”

The programs and tools created increased revenue lines for franchisees during the pandemic and beyond. Cheri Reid, Huntington Learning Center owner and operator in Skokie, Illinois, speaks on her center’s ability to maintain operations during the pandemic.

“When the pandemic hit, it became a necessity to adapt to fit the changing educational landscape,” says Reid. “Huntington launched HuntingtonHelps LIVE swiftly enough that we were still able to track students’ progression in school, and it wasn’t going down – HuntingtonHelps LIVE was effective from the start, and now it’s an expectation to provide a hybrid option for tutoring services, so we’re well-prepared.”

Huntington Learning Center is committed to empowering students to unlock their full potential. Whether it’s K-12 tutoring or test prep for college entrance exams or state standardized tests, Huntington Learning Center is able to tailor personalized plans that accelerates students’ abilities and improves their scores by focusing on individual student needs using an advanced performance tool, Navigator. Each student receives an Academic Evaluation that pinpoints academic strengths and weaknesses, and from there, tutors are able determine the best course of action. This alone makes Huntington Learning Center unique in an industry that tends to deliver a one-size-fits-all approach.

“We knew that both our franchisees and students were in need of support, and we sought to meet those needs in ways that would be mutually beneficial and efficient,” said Anne Huntington Sharma, President of Huntington Learning Center. “Our team has worked incredibly hard to adapt our tried-and-true teaching methods. This has resulted not only in more profitability for our franchise owners, but also meaning impact in the lives of our students. With a strong business model and world-class support systems fueling our systemwide performance, prospective franchisees are taking note. Our franchisees stepped up in their local communities during and post-pandemic, combining the new services and programs that our corporate team launched with their own unique strategies for growth and marketing.”

The success achieved by the brand has not gone unnoticed as the franchise industry has honored Huntington Learning Center with several recent award wins – ranking on Entrepreneur Magazine’s 2021 Franchise 500® for decades, no. 10 on Entrepreneur Magazine’s 2021 100 Top Low-Cost Franchises List, named Franchise Journal’s Top Brands of 2020 which honors brands that “stood by their franchisees, partners and team members to triumph through the pandemic,” and was named a Top Franchise for 2021 by Franchise Business Review. Huntington Learning Center continues to gain recognition and honors for the exceptional work it does toward fulfilling its mission to give every student the best education possible.

Already a $5 billion industry, Grand View Research reports that tutoring will grow to nearly $16 billion by 2027. To meet growing demand, Huntington Learning Center is actively seeking both single and multi-unit operators who are involved with their community and have a passion for purpose-driven business. Today, with nearly 300 centers open and several in development, the brand is on track for strategic franchise development across the country.
