Generational Divide in Workplace Trust: 24% of Boomers vs. 53% of Millennials Comfortable Discussing Personal Issues

2024-12-06T04:17:12-05:00December 6th, 2024|Tags: , , , |

Gen Z Leads in Workplace Communication

OKLAHOMA CITY — Nearly 3 in 4 employed U.S. job seekers (72%) believe their company fosters a safe and trusting environment that encourages honest communication, but a generational divide is evident: Gen Z and millennials are at the forefront, showing significantly more confidence in workplace communication than their Gen X counterparts (76% and 77% vs. 62%, respectively).

This is according to a recent Express Employment Professionals-Harris Poll survey.

Most job seekers find it easy to set professional boundaries (80%), receive constructive feedback from managers (76%) and be upfront about issues with their supervisors (68%). However, only 45% feel comfortable discussing personal issues affecting their work with their managers.

This varies widely by generation, with boomers/seniors (24%) less likely to find it easy compared to Gen Z (46%), millennials (53%) and Gen X (37%).

Notably, 16% percent of employed job seekers don’t feel they can speak candidly to anyone at their job about concerns or issues regarding their employer.

Company Perspectives
An overwhelming majority of U.S. hiring managers (86%) believe their company has built a safe and trusting environment that promotes honest communication. Additionally, 80% report their business has the right systems and tools in place to facilitate constructive criticism.

A striking 95% of hiring managers feel that employees can speak honestly with anyone at the company regarding their concerns or issues, with managers/supervisors (68%) and peers/colleagues (57%) being the most common points of contact.

“Creating a culture of honesty is not just about encouraging transparency among employees; it’s about equipping business leaders with the right tools and training to have open, honest conversations,” said Bill Stoller, Express Employment International CEO. “This survey shows each generation brings a unique communication style to the workplace, and it’s important for management to adapt their approach and provide tailored training to ensure effective communication across all age groups.”

Survey Methodology

Hundreds of entries received from talented welders, fabricators, metalworkers and artists across 4 countries

TORONTO – Metal Supermarkets, the world’s largest supplier of small-quantity metals, announced the six winners of the 10th annual Metal My Way contest, of which it is the creator and presenting sponsor.

This year’s competition received over 830 of submissions from across North America and the United Kingdom with projects ranging from small engine models, car restorations, commissioned art to large scale renovations and construction projects. Metalworking professionals and enthusiasts were encouraged to submit their metal-made projects during September for a chance to win prizes.

This year’s grand prize winner is Cindy Chinn from Chester, NebraskaUnited States, for her submission entitled ‘The Peacock’. Created over the course of a year, Cindy worked with copper sheets over a framework of rebar and pipe to create the body of peacock. Fabricated mild steel rod and scrap metal were used to construct the legs and head while the wings consist of copper rods and tubing.

Additionally, the outstanding projects in five categories received a Lincoln Electric Weld Pak. The category winners are:

Best Vehicle Project: James Frankland purchased metal from the Metal Supermarkets store in Southampton, United Kingdom to build his ‘Homemade Submarine’. James set about to fulfill a childhood dream and engineering challenge when he first took on the build. Over the course of six years, the creation involved welding, cutting, machining and general fabrication. After the design was certified, James’ submarine was rated to 100 meters diving depth.

Best Artistic and Design Project: Nancy Bole of Wichita, KansasUnited States – ‘The Indian’ – Nancy created this project based on her affinity to the Cherokee and Cree tribes. She spent almost six months to finish the creation using a plasma table to cut the metal, before welding and sculpting the crown, feathers and head.

Best Furniture and Home Project: Deborah Mitchell of Easley, South CarolinaUnited States – ‘Security Doors’ – Over 100 hours of work went into the creation of Deborah’s project that featured brushed copper sheeting, steel, steel rods, and copper wire. To make the commission for an art collector client, Deborah employed a variety of tools including tube bender, angle grinder, Dremel tool, hammer, and welding tools.

Best Industrial or Shop Project: Keith Broomfield purchased metal from the Metal Supermarkets store in London (Park Royal), United Kingdom to build his ‘4 Cylinder Hot Air Engine’. With an interest in small steamboats plus open boilers and engines, Keith spent almost five years creating his four-cylinder configuration featuring two crankshafts geared together. Using mild steel, stainless steel, silver steel, brass and phosphor bronze, Keith welded and soldered his own design using parts he created.

Best Knife Project: Isaiah Chevalier purchased metal from the Metal Supermarkets store in Anchorage, AlaskaUnited States to create ‘Snake Head Dagger’. Starting from the attitude of wanting to make something ‘different and unique, Isaiah took about 40 hours to create 80 layers of 15n20 carbon blade steel and 80crv2 high-carbon tool steel for his project. He forged the wrought iron guard featuring a cactus handle with brass inlay topped off with a find point to resemble a snake’s fang.

Winners were selected based on complexity, detail and intricacy; scale; uniqueness and creativity; craftmanship; quantity of metal used; and ingenuity. Selections were made by a committee consisting of Metal Supermarkets corporate staff.

“It was another challenging year to pick the winners from all the incredible projects submitted to this year’s Metal My Way contest,” said Stephen Schober, President and CEO of Metal Supermarkets. “With the ongoing need of skilled trade works across North America, it’s always encouraging to see all the people who have the skills to create amazing metalwork across Canada, the US and the UK. Congratulations to Cindy and all of this year’s winners.”

TREVOSE, Pa. — Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, the nation’s leading massage and facial spa franchise, today announced the conversion of 30 LaVida Massage locations across seven states that were rebranded as Hand & Stone franchise spas on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024. The expansion located in ArkansasGeorgiaMichiganNorth CarolinaOhioVirginia and Washington allow Hand & Stone to optimize markets where the brand already operates and to establish a presence in new, priority markets. Notably, Hand & Stone Bentonville is the first location in Arkansas and brings up the total of Hand & Stone locations from 39 to 40. These conversions allow Hand & Stone to optimize markets where the brand already operates and to establish a presence in new, priority markets.

“We’ve made the deliberate decision to make conversions a core part of our ongoing domestic expansion strategy. Conversions are a win-win for the entire Hand & Stone community, including our clients, our existing franchise owners and their teams, and for the converting operators,” said John Teza, President and Chief Executive Officer at Hand & Stone. “Through the addition of the LaVida Massage spas to our system, we’re reaching more consumers than ever before, and welcoming talented, experienced franchise business owners, who are already familiar with our sector, into our industry-leading brand. We are excited to partner with our new franchise owners and look forward to continuing our growth journey and exploring new opportunities to expand this strategy.”

Key to the conversion, as with every new spa opening, Hand & Stone is supporting incoming conversion franchisees by providing a full week of new owner training sessions at Hand & Stone’s headquarters in Trevose, Pennsylvania. The brand is also deploying training staff to provide on-site support for spa associate, massage therapist, and esthetician training for all incoming staff ahead of the conversion. Further, Hand & Stone is making a significant financial investment to support the successful conversion of each spa, as well as ensuring there is a smooth transition into the Hand & Stone system through guidance provided by the brand’s dedicated new spa operations leader.

“The former LaVida Massage spa owners are entering our brand with a background in the massage and wellness business, so our priority is to really immerse them into the Hand & Stone system and familiarize them with the wealth of specialized services that make us unique and keep us on the cutting edge,” said Jennifer Durham, Chief Development Officer at Hand & Stone. “Joining a brand like Hand & Stone provides these experienced spa owners the opportunity to increase their revenue through the addition of services they weren’t previously able to offer and, ultimately, expand their membership base. We share in their excitement as they embark on this new entrepreneurial journey with us.”

The converted locations will offer their clients the Hand & Stone lifestyle membership, which includes access to advanced skincare and spa services such as Decompression Therapy massage, Diamond Glow facial, NuFACE microcurrent facial, Percussive Therapy massage and LED Phototherapy facial. These locations will also offer additional enhancements through partnerships with award-winning skincare lines, including Dermalogica® (featuring their first-ever professional device, Pro Pen), ClarityRX, and IMAGE Skincare.

As Hand & Stone enters this new phase of growth, many open territories remain available for franchise ownership across the country. For more information on franchising opportunities, please visit handandstone.com/franchise.

MINNEAPOLIS — goGLOW, a leader in sunless tanning, has raised the bar in the industry with the introduction of its exclusive air-filtration system, developed from goGLOW Founder Melanie Richards’ patented technology. Designed to prioritize client safety and air quality, this innovation sets goGLOW apart by introducing an unprecedented level of cleanliness and comfort in sunless tanning.

The system features a walk-in booth with a curved wall that expertly controls airflow to enhance comfort, efficiency, and precision. Strategically placed fans direct airflow to minimize airborne tanning solution particles, ensuring an even, flawless tan. Advanced filters capture any remaining residue, circulating only clean, fresh air throughout each session.

This launch comes at a pivotal moment, as consumers increasingly seek transparency about the environments they engage with, driving demand for wellness-centered beauty experiences. goGLOW’s cutting-edge technology positions it as a leader in this clean beauty movement, bringing a wellness-first approach that distinguishes it from traditional spray tanning methods.

“We’re not just launching new technology—we’re addressing the number one concern in spray tanning,” said Melanie Richards, CEO of goGLOW. “Our clients’ health is our top priority, which is why I invested seven years and significant resources to develop this air-filtration system. When you step into a goGLOW booth, you’re experiencing the future of tanning, backed by patented technology that places goGLOW at the forefront of the sunless tanning revolution.”

As goGLOW expands its franchise network, this patented system will serve as the cornerstone of each location, ensuring a premium, safe, and spotless tanning experience. This breakthrough reinforces goGLOW’s role as a market leader, setting a gold standard for safety and quality in the sunless tanning industry.
