This year’s competition received over 830 of submissions from across North America and the United Kingdom with projects ranging from small engine models, car restorations, commissioned art to large scale renovations and construction projects. Metalworking professionals and enthusiasts were encouraged to submit their metal-made projects during September for a chance to win prizes.

This year’s grand prize winner is Cindy Chinn from Chester, NebraskaUnited States, for her submission entitled ‘The Peacock’. Created over the course of a year, Cindy worked with copper sheets over a framework of rebar and pipe to create the body of peacock. Fabricated mild steel rod and scrap metal were used to construct the legs and head while the wings consist of copper rods and tubing.

Additionally, the outstanding projects in five categories received a Lincoln Electric Weld Pak. The category winners are:

Best Vehicle Project: James Frankland purchased metal from the Metal Supermarkets store in Southampton, United Kingdom to build his ‘Homemade Submarine’. James set about to fulfill a childhood dream and engineering challenge when he first took on the build. Over the course of six years, the creation involved welding, cutting, machining and general fabrication. After the design was certified, James’ submarine was rated to 100 meters diving depth.

Best Artistic and Design Project: Nancy Bole of Wichita, KansasUnited States – ‘The Indian’ – Nancy created this project based on her affinity to the Cherokee and Cree tribes. She spent almost six months to finish the creation using a plasma table to cut the metal, before welding and sculpting the crown, feathers and head.

Best Furniture and Home Project: Deborah Mitchell of Easley, South CarolinaUnited States – ‘Security Doors’ – Over 100 hours of work went into the creation of Deborah’s project that featured brushed copper sheeting, steel, steel rods, and copper wire. To make the commission for an art collector client, Deborah employed a variety of tools including tube bender, angle grinder, Dremel tool, hammer, and welding tools.

Best Industrial or Shop Project: Keith Broomfield purchased metal from the Metal Supermarkets store in London (Park Royal), United Kingdom to build his ‘4 Cylinder Hot Air Engine’. With an interest in small steamboats plus open boilers and engines, Keith spent almost five years creating his four-cylinder configuration featuring two crankshafts geared together. Using mild steel, stainless steel, silver steel, brass and phosphor bronze, Keith welded and soldered his own design using parts he created.

Best Knife Project: Isaiah Chevalier purchased metal from the Metal Supermarkets store in Anchorage, AlaskaUnited States to create ‘Snake Head Dagger’. Starting from the attitude of wanting to make something ‘different and unique, Isaiah took about 40 hours to create 80 layers of 15n20 carbon blade steel and 80crv2 high-carbon tool steel for his project. He forged the wrought iron guard featuring a cactus handle with brass inlay topped off with a find point to resemble a snake’s fang.

Winners were selected based on complexity, detail and intricacy; scale; uniqueness and creativity; craftmanship; quantity of metal used; and ingenuity. Selections were made by a committee consisting of Metal Supermarkets corporate staff.

“It was another challenging year to pick the winners from all the incredible projects submitted to this year’s Metal My Way contest,” said Stephen Schober, President and CEO of Metal Supermarkets. “With the ongoing need of skilled trade works across North America, it’s always encouraging to see all the people who have the skills to create amazing metalwork across Canada, the US and the UK. Congratulations to Cindy and all of this year’s winners.”

In addition to Metal Supermarkets, this year’s Metal My Way was sponsored by Haco Atlantic, Inc., Space Aid Manufacturing, Cosen Saws, and Ferric Machinery.

With Another Major Conversion Initiative, Industry Leading Spa Franchise Accelerates Its Growth Across Seven States, with More Territories Available in North America

TREVOSE, Pa. — Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, the nation’s leading massage and facial spa franchise, today announced the conversion of 30 LaVida Massage locations across seven states that were rebranded as Hand & Stone franchise spas on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024. The expansion located in ArkansasGeorgiaMichiganNorth CarolinaOhioVirginia and Washington allow Hand & Stone to optimize markets where the brand already operates and to establish a presence in new, priority markets. Notably, Hand & Stone Bentonville is the first location in Arkansas and brings up the total of Hand & Stone locations from 39 to 40. These conversions allow Hand & Stone to optimize markets where the brand already operates and to establish a presence in new, priority markets.

“We’ve made the deliberate decision to make conversions a core part of our ongoing domestic expansion strategy. Conversions are a win-win for the entire Hand & Stone community, including our clients, our existing franchise owners and their teams, and for the converting operators,” said John Teza, President and Chief Executive Officer at Hand & Stone. “Through the addition of the LaVida Massage spas to our system, we’re reaching more consumers than ever before, and welcoming talented, experienced franchise business owners, who are already familiar with our sector, into our industry-leading brand. We are excited to partner with our new franchise owners and look forward to continuing our growth journey and exploring new opportunities to expand this strategy.”

Key to the conversion, as with every new spa opening, Hand & Stone is supporting incoming conversion franchisees by providing a full week of new owner training sessions at Hand & Stone’s headquarters in Trevose, Pennsylvania. The brand is also deploying training staff to provide on-site support for spa associate, massage therapist, and esthetician training for all incoming staff ahead of the conversion. Further, Hand & Stone is making a significant financial investment to support the successful conversion of each spa, as well as ensuring there is a smooth transition into the Hand & Stone system through guidance provided by the brand’s dedicated new spa operations leader.

Husband-Wife Team Strengthen Presence of One of America’s Largest Bathroom Remodelers in the Northeast

PORTLAND, Maine — As the bathroom remodeling industry continues to see steady growth, Re-Bath is capitalizing on the need for its services by expanding to Maine for the first time. The brand announced a new signed agreement to bring its services to Portland, Maine and surrounding communities. Co-owners Bill Trombly Jr. and Cristina Velez, who have successfully operated Re-Bath in New Hampshire, view Portland as the perfect place to grow their portfolio and bring their family-oriented approach to a new market.

About the Franchisees – A Family Operation:

After working for his father’s plumbing and heating company for 20 years, he purchased the business in 2006. In early 2024, he sold the company and shifted his focus solely to Re-Bath. Trombly opened Re-Bath New Hampshire in April 2022, and after quick success looked to expand into other areas of the Northeast.
  • Cristina Velez, originally from Colombia, has spent over two decades in higher education, currently serving as the Assistant Dean for the School of Business at Southern New Hampshire University. Her business expertise has been essential to expanding Re-Bath’s presence into new markets.
  • Jordan Trombly, Bill and Cristina’s sonhas been named General Manager for the new territory in Maine. He recently got his Master’s Degree in Business from Southern New Hampshire University, where he got experience as an intern and brand ambassador for Re-Bath.

“We have been wanting to expand into Maine for a long time, and the Re-Bath franchise system helped make that goal a reality,” said Bill Trombly. “The support we’ve received from Re-Bath since day one has been instrumental to our growth, and we’re excited to bring our services to the vibrant community up in Maine.”

With more than 129,000 franchise businesses and an output of $143.9 billion, the northeast region of the U.S. presents a great opportunity for aspiring franchisees. While Re-Bath views the Northeast a prime area for growth, there are numerous territories available throughout the country.

“After Bill and Cristina’s success in New Hampshire, we have no doubt they are ideal franchisees to expand Re-Bath’s footprint into Maine for the first time,” said Brad Hillier, CEO of Re-Bath. “Their deep roots in the Northeast and family-focused approach to running their operation will set them up for success in this new territory. We’re thrilled to see them grow within our franchise system and lead the way in expanding our reach to Maine.”

As one of the largest bathroom remodeling companies in the United States, Re-Bath has established a proven business model, unparalleled franchise office support, and an infrastructure for growth as it continues to seek strategic franchise partners to expand its footprint nationwide.

During the Sound the Alarm event held around the country last spring, more than 250 homes without alarms were provided with smoke detectors which were installed by both the fire department and local Paul Davis Restoration Team Members.

Throughout the year, as the Red Cross experienced nationwide shortages of blood donations, Paul Davis Restoration responded in commitment to their alignment with the American Red Cross Mission by hosting 22 blood drives, collecting 515 units of blood that could potentially save over 1,545 lives.

“We are thrilled to continue our support of the American Red Cross during one of the biggest times of need in this century,” said Rich Wilson, President, and CEO of Paul Davis Restoration. “We feel particularly aligned with the American Red Cross, and our initial donation of $500,000 in January of this year proved to all of us at Paul Davis Restoration that we have a very similar dedication to providing extraordinary care while serving people in their time of need, and as such are proud and excited to commit this now $1,000,000 to the American Red Cross.”

Development Milestones and Climbing Ranks on Franchise Times Top 400 Reflect Senior Care Company’s Accelerated Momentum

TROY, Mich. — Best Life Brands, LLC (“Best Life Brands”), a franchised organization with a portfolio of five brands dedicated to senior care, is celebrating unprecedented growth and expansion in the third quarter of 2024. With standout achievements in monthly, quarterly and yearly franchise awards, the company is on track to set a new all-time high by January 2025.

In August alone, Best Life Brands awarded 33 new franchise locations, marking the highest number of agreements in a single month in the company’s history, with 18 of those from Boost Home Healthcare. This achievement contributed to a record total of 66 franchises awarded during the June-August period, highlighting the brand’s rapid momentum. Additionally, Best Life Brands reached a total of 84 new franchise locations from June through September, setting a new record for the highest count in any four-month period.

This swift development positions Best Life Brands within reach of its all-time annual record for awarded franchise agreements in a calendar year, set at 126 agreements. These achievements are particularly notable when compared to 2020, when the company set a record with 71 franchise awards for the entire year. Currently, Best Life Brands boasts 743 total franchise locations across all five of its brands, with 611 of those locations open and operating.

Further reinforcing its strong upward momentum as a franchising powerhouse, two of Best Life Brands’ distinguished companies climbed in the Franchise Times Top 400 rankings for 2024. ComForCare, a premier franchised provider of in-home caregiving services, rose to #214 and CarePatrol, the nation’s largest senior care solutions organization, advanced to #444. Both brands have improved their rankings for three consecutive years, reflecting their commitment to helping seniors live their best lives, and aligning with the overall growth strategy of Best Life Brands.

“Our remarkable growth in 2024 is not just about numbers; it reflects our unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of seniors and empowering our franchisees to thrive. We are inspired by the success of our brands and the positive impact we’re making in the senior care industry,” said J.J. Sorrenti, CEO of Best Life Brands. “As we continue to expand our footprint into 2025, we remain dedicated to our mission of improving seniors’ lives and supporting the exceptional franchisees who make this possible.”
