Married franchisees Aaron and Bojana Winaker had worked in different fields before opening their Home Helpers® Home Care franchise in Rocklin, California. Aaron is an experienced entrepreneur with previous businesses in the venture-backed tech space. Bojana has a background in accounting, performing audits at a CPA firm and doing all the bookkeeping at Aaron’s previous companies.
Looking for a change, the Winakers began exploring franchise opportunities and found the concept of investing in an established business model very appealing. They explored a range of industries from cutting trees to installing insulation. However, when they came across home care, the Winakers knew that it was an industry that aligned with their values.
“This just felt like something very meaningful where we could really help people,” said Aaron. “That’s what got us. With all my other businesses, I felt like something was always missing, and I just wanted to help people. That was the criteria.”
While home care franchises are rewarding, the Winakers realized not all are created equal; they vary in the types of support they offer to clients and franchisees as well as the quality of care they provide. The husband and wife sought the perfect fit.
“Bobby at Home Helpers talked to us. It just resonated, and we really clicked,” said Aaron. “Then, he introduced us to the other franchisees, and they felt like people that could be our friends; they just had that excitement, that energy.”
In August 2023, the Winakers opened their Home Helpers Home Care franchise. Within a year and a half, they were awarded the Brand Champion Award at the company’s annual conference for going above and beyond in upholding their core values and standards. Also, their location has been recognized as Best of Home Care – Provider of Choice and Employer of Choice by Activated Insights, highlighting their dedication to both their clients and caregivers.
In 2025, they hope to expand their offerings to clients, including ways to foster community within seniors.
“The most gratifying part, especially when the clients never thought about home care, is making them feel more at ease and super simple for them,” said Bojana. “That’s our goal: simplifying the whole process and getting them excited about home care and keeping their independence.”
