Finding a True Work/Life Balance
Ray Glover was working 12 hour days and clocking in on the weekends, serving a large national tenant in the commercial real estate industry. He was stressed, overworked and not loving the life he was living. So, he decided to use that same time and energy to launch his own business and seek a better work/life balance.
“I began looking to buy a business and found a plumbing franchise resale,” he explained. “However, during my due diligence, the seller was not very forthcoming with information I needed and did not respond to my offer for three weeks. When he did respond, it was not clear he really wanted to sell the business. As a result, I decided to rescind my offer and continue to search.”
As luck would have it, Glover received a call the very next day from a franchise broker who introduced him to the concept of franchise consulting. He researched and interviewed several broker networks before deciding to join FranServe, Inc.
“I have been in the business of helping people achieve their goals for more than four years now and love that aspect of the work,” Glover said. “I also love the freedom of being my own boss and controlling the activities needed to build a business to the size that meets my needs.”
Glover, who owns and operates Glover Franchise Consultants, LLC, said he uses his unique abilities to understand, listen and interpret the feedback from his clients to determine the best fits for them. His process includes an introductory call during which he learns more about the candidate.
“I get a good understanding of their strengths, weaknesses and areas where they will need support to be successful,” he explained. “We speak about the industries they have interest in and what are important factors for them in business ownership. I learn about their financial goals and current capacity to invest in a new venture.”
After a thorough search, there are second and third meetings to discuss brand introductions. Glover stays involved throughout the entire length of the process to ensure that candidates are getting their questions answered and making the best decision for themselves and their families.
“My years of exposure to various types of people, cultures, personality types and missions in life have prepared me for this industry as a franchise consultant,” Glover noted. “I have managed both high and low performing teams, which has given me a lot of this experience.”
He also praised the benefits of partnering with FranServe.
“I enjoy partnering with FranServe because of the family culture and the desire to get things right,” he continued. “Whether it’s responsible franchising or adding great brands to our portfolio, there’s always that pursuit of excellence.”
Looking to the future, Glover hopes to broaden his consulting business and continue helping hopeful franchisees find the right fit.
“I plan to continue franchise consulting into the foreseeable future,” he concluded. “I enjoy helping people and the work I do, so there are no plans to slow down. I may add a bit more travel to continue to enjoy life to the fullest!”
