Leading With a Personal Touch
Emma Dickison isn’t just the CEO and president of Home Helpers® Home Care; she’s a passionate leader with a deep personal connection to the work. When she was in the fifth grade, her family navigated the complexities of caring for her grandmother after a stroke. They successfully kept her in her home for more than 18 years, an experience that forged Dickison’s belief in the power of quality in-home care.
Dickison’s leadership is not only building a thriving franchise but also ensuring that more families have the support they need to care for their loved ones, paving the way for the next generation of women leaders in business.
Today, she’s channeling that passion into Home Helpers Home Care, a company experiencing record-breaking growth and redefining what it means to be a supportive franchise. Following a year in which the company welcomed 41 new franchisees – a record – Home Helpers Home Care is on pace to have another successful year. This growth is mainly due to the company’s unwavering support for its franchisees.
“We’re now able to establish offices in communities we previously couldn’t serve, which ensures more families have access to the care they need,” said Dickison. “This dedication to service really hits home for me. I recently went through a similar experience with my own mother-in-law. The ability to engage a caregiver allowed her to live independently, and it was a poignant reminder of the important work Home Helpers does every day.”
Recognizing that the first few years are critical, Home Helpers Home Care has developed a franchise services team that works with new franchisees for two years, compared with most franchises that provide new support only in the first six months to a year. This comprehensive support program is designed to help new franchisees get off the ground faster and stronger. Seasoned franchisees also receive dedicated assistance and support while the Agency of Excellence program allows new franchisees to spend three days learning directly from experienced, top-performing franchisees.
Another crucial part of the company’s success is the talented team Dickison has assembled. She highlighted the addition of Amanda Corrigan as chief operating officer, whose contributions have directly supported the franchisees. This emphasis on talent has created a workplace where the average tenure of National Support Center employees is an impressive seven years – a clear sign that Home Helpers Home Care is one of the industry’s top employers.
Looking ahead, Dickison sees a clear runway for industry growth, with rising demand for in-home care. Government programs and new legislation are being created to support in-home care, demonstrating just how relevant and important the work of Home Helpers Home Care is.
“I’m very passionate about home care and franchising. I encourage women to lean in and get a seat at the table in whatever way that may look like,” Dickison said. “Dive in, ask questions and look for mentorship.”
