Owners Joel and Amy Senger’s experiences in homebuilding and real estate provide them with the perfect background to market the home renovation franchise

CINCINNATI — The Designery, an immersive, full-service kitchen, bath and closet design center featuring high-quality cabinets, countertops and flooring, celebrates the grand opening of its first Ohio location with a ribbon-cutting and social event from 4- 6 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the showroom at 1895 Airport Exchange Boulevard, Suite 220, Erlanger, Kentucky.

The event will also feature giveaways and door prizes from Yeti, Solo Stove and others.

The Designery Metro Cincinnati owners Joel and Amy Senger say they want to bring customized design and renovation services to the southern Ohio and northern Kentucky region. The couple moved to the Cincinnati area from the Dallas-Fort Worth area in April 2023.

“We owned and operated Senger Custom Homes in Texas where we specialized in customized new home builds and high-end renovations and remodels,” Joel Senger said. “After moving to the Cincinnati area last year, we begin remodeling the home that we purchased. When we had trouble finding one place that offered everything we needed for our remodeling project, we decided to draw upon our experience and bring a Designery location to this area.”

Senger, a Montana native, worked as a homebuilder and superintendent for DR Horton and Antares Homes in Texas for almost 10 years. He also has experience in building custom cabinetry and won Fort Worth Magazine’s Best Remodeling Contractor award in 2019. The couple also owned a pool construction business in Texas, and Senger won an award for best outdoor environment in 2021.

Senger’s wife, Amy, worked in real estate finance and in the mortgage industry for nearly 20 years, and says she’s looking forward to helping clients in the Cincinnati area with their renovation needs.

“We believe the skills we’ve gained over the past several years in the construction and real estate financing industries will give us a competitive edge,” she said. “We also love it here. The people are so incredibly friendly here. The pace is much slower than the larger urban area we came from but is still large enough to find something fun to do.”

The couple have been married for more than 13 years, and have two children, Marley, 15, and Andie, 10. Amy Senger is also a certified Biblical counselor and volunteers a few hours a week for a ministry that offers free Biblical counseling.

The Designery widens its North Carolina footprint with a new location in Concord

Owner Carolina Preciado wants to help local residents turn their houses into homes with expertly designed kitchens, bathrooms and closets

CONCORD, N.C. — The Designery, an immersive, full-service kitchen, bath and closet design center featuring high-quality cabinets, countertops and flooring, will celebrate its newest location at 96 McGill Avenue, NW, Concord, North Carolina, with a grand opening event from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the outlet’s showroom.

The event will feature music from local artist David Gibson, a “Taste of Concord” event featuring a sampling of dishes from the area’s favorite restaurants, and a chance to win prizes, such as an Amazon Echo and gift cards to local eateries.

“In an age of morally ambiguous corporations, we are incredibly excited to bring a sense of local, personalized and care-oriented customer service that goes beyond the mentality of profit over people,” said The Designery Concord owner Carolina Preciado. “By prioritizing the well-being of both our clients and our employees, we plan to use our location as a source of good in the community while creating a path for generational wealth and family legacy.”

Preciado said she plans to establish relationships with local nonprofit organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Future Business Leaders of America, and with area schools and other local businesses to create a professional community. Preciado is originally from BogotaColumbia, but moved to Florida when she was 2 years old. She moved to Huntersville, North Carolina, in 2006. She lived in Charlotte, North Carolina, prior to opening her location in Concord.

Local pest control company reopens as Yard Patrol Pros with a ribbon-cutting celebration

Local owners AJ Bodick and Garrett Chisum will also showcase new office space for their Window Hero Lake Norman location as they celebrate the relaunch of both property service brands

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Yard Patrol Pros Charlotte will host a grand opening and relaunch with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the company’s new office at 20468 Chartwell Center Drive, Cornelius, North Carolina, on Monday, May 6 at 9 a.m.

Yard Patrol Pros owners AJ Bodick and Garrett Chisum are also using the new location as the headquarters of their Window Hero Lake Norman venture. Both Yard Patrol Pros and Window Hero are franchise brands under the umbrella of HomeFront Brands, a property service franchise platform company.

The Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce and commissioners from the Town of Cornelius will be on hand to help the businesses celebrate their relaunch.

Bodick and Chisum were owners of the local Mozzie Dome pest control franchise, but, earlier this year, HomeFront Brands relaunched that franchise as Yard Patrol Pros to better highlight the company’s natural and barrier pest control treatments. As part of their relaunch, Yard Patrol Pros Charlotte will present its new turf fertilization service at the event.

“With a new office for Window Hero and Yard Patrol Pro’s new name and focus, we felt it was a great time to celebrate with a grand opening and relaunch party,” Bodick said. “As multi-unit franchise owners with HomeFront Brands, we want to feature both our brands and let our community know that we are open for business.”

In addition to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, participants will have a chance to handle a fertilizing gun, a pressure washer, a squeegee and a robotic pressure washer.

“We want to give customers an idea of what it is we do and how we do it,” Bodick said. “This way, the community will have an interactive event that allows them to get a feel for the tools of our trade.”

The Designery expands its reach into North Carolina with new location in North Raleigh

Local owners Dana and Anne-Louise Merrill will kick off their showroom’s grand opening on April 25

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Designery, an immersive, full-service kitchen, bath and closet design center featuring high-quality cabinets, countertops and flooring, will celebrate the grand opening of its newest location in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Thursday, April 25.

The Designery North Raleigh owners Dana and Anne-Louise Merrill say they look forward to providing Raleigh homeowners with the design tools they need to make their homes beautiful, comfortable and useful.

“I always look for a trusted partner when I need service for my home or my car,” Dana Merrill said. “I’ve been going to the same automobile repair shop for 16 years, and I call the same plumber I’ve used for years when I need a plumbing repair. We want to be that trusted partner that people in the Raleigh area use when they want to reimagine their space.”

Anne-Louise Merrill said that building relationships is as important to her as providing reliable service.

“In addition to being the go-to design experts for kitchen, bathroom and closet remodeling, we also want to get to know our clients so we can serve them better,” she said. “We want to build a family business that is trusted and known in our community.”

The Merrills location will truly be a family affair with the addition of their son, True Merrill, as the location’s project manager. The Merrills have been married for 30 years and have eight children and four grandchildren.

The couple is originally from New England but has called Raleigh home for the past 17 years.

Dana Merrill worked as the director of portfolio management, vendor manager and software development director for MetLife for nine years. He also worked as a project manager for Fidelity Investments and Veritude. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music, voice and theater from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire, and attended a full-stack web development boot camp at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Anne-Louise Merrill home-schooled the couple’s children and has a degree in piano pedagogy from Plymouth State University.

The Merrills began offering their redesigning services to the Raleigh community late last summer but welcome the opening of their permanent showroom at 3030 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, North Carolina.

The couple were the recipients of the Downtown Raleigh Home Show’s new exhibitor Best in Show award in January, and they won HomeFront Brands’ CARES Award at the company’s franchisee convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, in November.

HomeFront Brands announces support for new initiative to accelerate franchise ownership among underrepresented groups

The International Franchise Association’s new accelerator program seeks to increase franchise business ownership to narrow wealth gap

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — HomeFront Brands, a property service franchise platform comprising five emerging brands, today announced its support for the International Franchise Association (IFA)’s new Franchise Ascension Initiative, an accelerator program established to support individuals from underrepresented communities with education, mentorship, resources and financial support so they can successfully launch a career in franchise ownership.

By increasing diversity in the franchisee talent pipeline, the Franchise Ascension Initiative aims to narrow the wealth gap and provide qualified individuals with business ownership opportunities.

“Franchising is one of the greatest pathways to business ownership and creating generational wealth,” said IFA President and CEO Matt Haller. “This program ensures that access to opportunity is available to everyone, regardless of background. What better way to bridge the wealth gap than by opening more doors for minority business owners. With the support of our generous partners like HomeFront Brands, the Ascension Initiative will further help franchising change lives and communities.”

As a Founding Supporter, HomeFront Brands will donate $10,000 annually over the next five years for a total contribution of $50,000. The company’s donations will help launch the accelerator program, which will begin accepting applications in the coming months. The first group of participants is expected in late 2024.

The Franchise Ascension Initiative will select capable candidates for a rigorous six-month education program to help them build the essential skills they need to be successful franchisees. Building on IFA’s extensive library of franchise educational materials, the program will be specifically curated for participants, along with individualized mentorship. The program will culminate in a pitch contest with potential franchise opportunities.

South Carolina entrepreneur wins Top Producer of the Year for two Charleston businesses

Local owner Nate Van Valkenburg takes home the prize for both his Window Hero Charleston and The Designery Charleston locations

The awards were presented to Van Valkenburg earlier this month at HomeFront Brands’ Homecoming Convention at the company’s headquarters near Charlotte, North Carolina. The conference brought together franchisees, corporate employees and vendor partners to celebrate HomeFront Brands’ impressive growth since its inception in late 2022.
