Longtime industry veteran to spearhead growth, strategic planning and development for leading national provider of in-home senior care.

BALTIMORESenior Helpers®, the nation’s premier provider of in-home senior care, today announced the promotion of Mari Baxter to chief operations officer (COO). In her new role, Baxter will be responsible for leading the company’s aggressive growth trajectory, strategic planning for future development and external strategic partnerships. She will oversee a national network of more than 300 Senior Helpers franchise locations throughout the U.S. and lead the company’s Owners Council, which is made up of 13 select franchisees.

“We are thrilled to elevate Mari to the executive leadership team, and are confident her deep expertise in franchising will continue to bring our company to new operational heights while delivering against our mission to provide the highest quality, in-home senior care available in the marketplace today,” said Peter Ross, Senior Helpers CEO. “In recent years, Mari has been instrumental in developing and shaping our industry-leading LIFE Profile assessment tool and Centers of Excellence training program.”

Senior Helpers® Earns 2021 Great Place to Work® Certification for Third Consecutive Year

2021-05-25T12:05:43-04:00May 25th, 2021|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

Leading provider of in-home care awarded prestigious industry designation spotlighting employee satisfaction.

BALTIMORE — Senior Helpers®, the nation’s premier provider of in-home senior care, today announced it has achieved the prestigious, Great Place to Work® certification for the third consecutive year. As the first and only national in-home care company to be awarded this distinction since earning the initial recognition in 2019, Senior Helpers’ rapidly growing business is continually dedicated to providing safe, quality and compassionate care to older adults and their families. Since 2019, Senior Helpers has opened 48 new locations across the U.S. and has a strong pipeline of new openings for the remainder of 2021.

“Year over year, our community of caregivers and team members builds upon our foundation and strengthens our values of inclusion, appreciation, respect and compassion,” said Peter Ross, Senior Helpers CEO. “Having the Great Place to Work® certification awarded to us for the third consecutive year underscores our commitment to creating a culture that fosters positive experiences. It’s rewarding to me and the rest of the executive team to know our team members and caregivers consistently report a positive experience with our company — something that hasn’t changed even as our business has expanded. Afterall, we firmly believe that happy employees provide the best care for deserving seniors.”

Senior Helpers was granted this prominent designation by Great Place to Work for the third year after undergoing a rigorous, data-driven evaluation which considers more than 60 elements of the team member experience derived from surveys and feedback from more than 12,000 employees, regardless of their role in the organization. The evaluation considers employee pride and camaraderie, as well as the company’s positive community impact. The belief that each employee’s work makes a true difference for clients, and the recognition that the time and care team members put in everyday has special meaning is especially critical to the assessment process.

“We applaud Senior Helpers for seeking certification and releasing its employees’ feedback,” said Dr. Jacquelyn Kung, of Great Place to Work’s senior care affiliate Activated Insights. “These ratings measure Senior Helpers’ capacity to earn its employees’ trust and create a great workplace for high performance.”

The Great Place to Work Trust IndexTM methodology includes an exacting survey taken by millions of employees in thousands of companies annually. It represents the gold standard in measuring culture and employee engagement.

David Chandler Joins Senior Helpers as Senior Director of Strategic Programs

2021-05-05T11:40:28-04:00May 5th, 2021|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

Former retirement executive and RN to help national leader in in-home senior care amplify programs and build positive client outcomes.

BALTIMORESenior Helpers®, the nation’s premier provider of in-home senior care today announced the appointment of David Chandler to Senior Director of Strategic Programs. In this role, Chandler will be responsible for building partnerships across the continuum of care for seniors and supporting Senior Helpers’ proprietary LIFE Profile, a data-driven assessment tool that provides a holistic view of over 140 risks and factors that influence a loved one’s ability to age in their home. Chandler will leverage LIFE Profile to improve overall quality of life, reduce hospitalization risk and support successful aging at home.

“We are pleased to continue to strengthen our team with David’s expertise and insights to help further support Senior Helpers’ mission to deliver the highest quality, in-home senior care available in the marketplace today,” comments Peter Ross, Senior Helpers CEO. “We recognize that the home care industry continues to experience unprecedented growth, and he will bring a personal passion to supporting research and evidence-based practices, all grounded in LIFE Profile. Working closely with the tool will uncover factors of one’s life that directly correlate to their safety, quality of life and independence.”

Prior to joining Senior Helpers, Chandler served as a quality and safety coordinator and registered nurse, while managing local and enterprise-wide quality improvement projects. Before that, he was a registered oncology nurse, where he honed compassionate nursing care and clinical skills. Most recently, Chandler held successive roles at Retirement Center Management, where he managed financial operations and led staff development. He earned an MBA with a Concentration in Healthcare Administration at the Eastern University in Philadelphia and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing with a Concentration in Chemistry from Oral Roberts University.

“When I started my work in senior care at the age of 15, I was surprised by how others didn’t take the necessary care that seniors need and deserve,” Chandler explains. “Before I joined the Senior Helpers team, I was a believer in LIFE Profile as a customer who saw the benefits of this assessment tool firsthand. I’m thrilled to be in the position to help even more people by ensuring positive outcomes for our clients, which Senior Helpers has made our highest priority.”

National Survey by Senior Helpers Suggests Seniors are Thriving and Ready to Return to Normalcy After a Year in Quarantine

2021-03-18T11:01:40-04:00March 18th, 2021|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

Findings Show the 65+ Population Feels More Self-Sufficient, Has Embraced New Hobbies and Is More Comfortable Using Technology, Compared to One Year Ago.

BALTIMORE — One year into the COVID-19 pandemic, Senior Helpers®, the nation’s premier provider of in-home senior care, released findings of its Seniors: One Year in Quarantine survey, which explores attitudes and behaviors of adults aged 65+ since March 2020, along with their feelings toward the future. Surprisingly, a majority of seniors (72%) reported they feel safer and more comfortable seeing friends and family now, even without having been vaccinated themselves. At the time of this release, more than half of seniors reported they still hadn’t received the vaccine. But after a year of social distancing and quarantining, 88% of respondents also consider themselves just as, if not more, self-sufficient when compared to pre-pandemic times. While the senior population has been one of the most vulnerable groups during the pandemic, Senior Helpers’ study found that most older adults have been able to find the silver lining amid a tough situation.

“In light of the pandemic, it could be far too easy to only view seniors as fragile and vulnerable; however, this survey proved that our elders are quite the opposite — with a majority of seniors having learned new hobbies and becoming more comfortable with technology like Zoom, FaceTime and telemedicine,” said Peter Ross, Senior Helpers CEO. “Seniors are the backbone of society and it’s gratifying to learn that, for many, their physical, mental and emotional health has been maintained and even strengthened during these trying times.”

According to the survey, today, seniors have an appetite for adventure — 71% of respondents reported that they have NOT traveled in the last year but 60% plan to do so in the year ahead. They also say they have embraced and adopted new pastimes during COVID, including baking, watching TV and playing online games.

Other interesting findings include:

  • 45% of seniors have utilized telehealth/telemedicine over the past year
  • 53% of seniors said they have made peace with the current COVID situation
  • 65% of seniors surveyed believe people are kinder or just as kind since before the pandemic hit a year ago

Social distancing had negative impacts, according to survey findings. In fact, 60% of senior respondents admit to feeling less connected with family and friends since the start of the pandemic. While nearly 40% of seniors saw their families five times or more during the course of the past year, approximately 64% say their visits were still considerably less than pre-pandemic times. This may be the cause of 42% of seniors experiencing feelings of depression, anxiety, isolation or other mental health concerns over the past year.

For seniors who are coping with social isolation, Ross explains care companions are a great solution to provide seniors with the social support they need to age in place more happily, safely and comfortably. Beyond professional in-home care, Senior Helpers strives to help maintain seniors’ wellbeing, prevent feelings of depression and bring more fun to their lives.

Ross continued, “At Senior Helpers, we strive to provide a better quality of life for our elderly clients and their families, no matter the circumstances. We always try to find the bright side and our caregivers look to create moments of joy in any situation.”
