Shannon Mischler had spent her career in education developing family literacy programs and serving students at the University of Pittsburgh. After several positions at the university, Mischler began to feel that chapter of her life was nearing an end.

She then set her sights on business ownership, leading her to Schooley Mitchell, a consulting firm that helps businesses cut costs by renegotiating expenses and finding other savings to operate more efficiently.

“All my positions at the university were developing new programs in which I created structured processes and worked with staff and budgets, so I knew that I had it in me to be an entrepreneur,” said Mischler.

During her research, Mischler met with a franchise broker who brought the opportunity to her. Schooley Mitchell spoke to her past experience as a program director. Cost reduction was a natural fit for her.

“I really appreciated that there is no risk and no upfront costs with Schooley Mitchell,” said Mischler. “They absolutely stand behind their word. They put every bit of effort into that analysis. That’s what incentivizes them. That concept of ‘we don’t make a nickel, until we save you a dime,’ makes so much sense.”

In November 2023, Mischler became a strategic partner with Schooley Mitchell in Pittsburgh. She was able to wind down her career in education while building up her own business until she opened in March 2024.

“I think that sales can be very complex – and it is complex for me now – but I thought, ‘OK, I can do this,’” said Mischler. “Going in, I knew I wanted to be authentic and transparent. I was already sold on the product, and I felt that it was something every organization could benefit from.”

Since opening, Mischler has grown a diverse roster of clients. This year, she is focused on networking with business owners and building relationships within the business community.

“I always had that innovative spirit, and so stepping into business ownership felt like a natural next step,” said Mischler.
