Dylan Cook and Steven Roscioli, co-founders and owners of Moving U & Junk U, were headed down a different road at West Chester University when they discovered that their part-time jobs could evolve into a big business. “When we first started, I was a sophomore in college, and Steve was planning on going to medical school,” said Cook, CEO of Moving U & Junk U.  “We were working on 100% sweat equity, just walking into places that we thought someone might be moving, and then we got to the point where we were like, ‘Hey, we can do this full time.’ So we bought a truck, and the rest is history!”

It was a matter of time before the attempt at a quick buck turned into a successful business. “Right after, people started saying, ’Wow! Are you guys a franchise? I feel like you guys should be on Shark Tank or something like that!’ When you hear that from your customers, you realize the idea of becoming a franchise was real,” Cook explained.

Cook and Roscioli believe in a sincere work ethic and flexible culture. “Since we did everything ourselves, we realized we needed to focus on the two things that were right for us: local moving and junk removal. This has allowed our franchisees to also get a lot of business from the very start and focus on the items with the highest profitability and lowest liability. The services really complement each other. For example, we’ll be moving someone who is downsizing, and then we need to go back and help clean up the rest of their items. It happens all the time!” added Cook.

“I thought this would be something I would really enjoy, not sitting in a cubicle or at a desk all day every day. It’s been a cool ride so far. If I inspire one person to even think about it, that would be awesome,” concluded Cook. Today, Cook has built a thriving franchise, and the satisfaction within assures Cook he made the right decision by turning down a 9-5 and building his own future. Cook hasn’t looked back and is only seeing the road ahead.
