A day in Ana Allison’s professional life has evolved to keep up with the pace of her fast-growing business. By Rochelle Miller
When Ana Allison first became a franchise owner with Aussie Pet Mobile in the greater Seattle area, she admittedly had no experience grooming pets – but there were other advantages that drew her to the brand.
“I chose Aussie because I wanted a flexible schedule. I wanted it to be scalable. I wanted a business I could grow,” Allison said. In the early years she had to learn how to groom animals and spent her days traveling to appointments solo in order to get her business off the ground.
What a difference a decade can make. Not only has she achieved her revenue goals, but her schedule looks much different these days. Rather than grooming pets, she is overseeing a staff of ten groomers and managing a fleet of eight full-service mobile grooming units.
Needless to say, a day in Allison’s professional life has evolved to keep up with the pace of her fast-growing business.
Here’s what a typical day looks like for Ana Allison as she runs her thriving enterprise:
7:30 a.m.: Allison’s schedulers and general manager arrive to her home-based office to help her tackle the day’s agenda that includes dozens of appointments. “It’s like a chess game,” she explained.
8:30 a.m.: As the first grooming appointments of the day get underway, Allison and her staff review the maintenance schedule to minimize downtime of the vehicles.
10 a.m.-4 p.m.: Allison tends to all aspects of daily operations, from customer service issues to interviewing new groomers and analyzing P&L reports while her schedulers juggle changes.
4 p.m.: Staff head home, but Allison’s day isn’t over. The evening provides time for her to check the vans to for mechanical issues, fixing many things herself. “You have to be a ‘jack of all trades,’” she said. “I like that.”
Despite her long weekdays, Allison is happy to report that she takes off Saturdays and Sundays for a well-deserved break. “It’s taken me awhile to learn I can’t work seven days a week,” she said.
