We asked Michael Kontras, president of Bailey Seafood, about the secret behind the business success that has drawn loyal customers for nearly four decades.

What sets Bailey Seafood apart from the competition in the food sector?

Our dynamic and very unique menu that incorporates a full line of seafood sets Bailey Seafood apart from our competitors. We offer creative menu items like Super Sandwiches, Belly Busters, Seafood Skillets, and Seafood Boils. Customers can order their meals fried, baked, sautéed, or steamed. It’s rare to find a take-out concept that can incorporate all these variations and do them well.

We are on top of food trends and will evolve our menu accordingly to them, never missing a beat on what people love. We also realize many customers want to know that some food is sourced locally, which we will do for every franchise. Since we also have over 35 years of strong relationships with our vendors, most of our seafood will be shipped directly from the processor, cutting out middle-men, bringing down food costs tremendously.

Is prior experience in the industry required for franchise owners?

Absolutely not. All franchise owners are on-boarded by me personally, along with my team. We make sure all franchise owners are set up for success!

What training and support do you provide to new franchisees?

New franchise owners and their managers receive 30 hours of training from me personally to learn the “ins and outs” of the seafood business. We also share our knowledge base, which includes information on every aspect of running the business, from vendor relationships and recipes to ordering supplies and hiring. Our program is a step-by-step process that is easy to follow.

What business options are available to prospective investors?

Franchise owners can select various store setups that can include an open-kitchen concept where cooks can interact with customers. This is how our original store is designed, and it’s been very successful. People love to see a clean kitchen!
