Making a Difference
Garrett Vargas didn’t start his career in the beauty and wellness industry. In fact, he has a successful background working for big tech companies and co-founded a childcare startup. After selling his startup company, he began looking for his next venture in the booming wellness industry. He knew he wanted a concept that offered operational guidance in an area new to him and was suited to a semi-absentee role.
A franchise broker brought Vargas the Heyday Skincare franchise opportunity, a membership-based facial and skincare model. Although the concept didn’t seem to fit his background at first, Vargas was drawn to its technology-driven operations and the entrepreneurial energy of a brand early in franchising with just two locations.
Vargas signed on and opened his Heyday Skincare location in Kirkland, Washington. Now, he serves on the company’s franchise advisory council, where he uses his technical background to contribute to the corporate technology team.
“What I appreciate about skincare in general is that I feel it makes a difference in people’s lives,” Vargas said. “Through repeated visits, the improvement in people’s complexions and just how they feel about themselves really drives and motivates me.”
Here’s what Vargas’s typical day as a Heyday Skincare franchisee looks like:
- 6 a.m. Vargas reviews the day’s schedule, checking client appointments and any planned events.
- 8 a.m. He takes a deeper look at the numbers and month-to-month performance.
- 10 a.m. Because he’s semi- absentee, Vargas works primarily from home and relies on his manager to handle the bulk of operations. He connects with his front desk team to give updates or address any questions.
- Noon. He helps the Heyday Skincare corporate tech team with various tasks, such as resolving tech tickets, assisting fellow franchise partners or answering data questions.
- 2 p.m. He spends time working on tech consulting projects for other companies to keep his skills sharp.
- 4 p.m. Vargas wraps up his work and uses the rest of the day to work on his improv skills or spend time with his family.
