A Hofbräuhaus franchise is a game changer among today’s restaurants and brewpubs because it allows guests to enjoy an authentic Bavarian experience without traveling across the world to Munich. The franchise is an extension of the iconic Hofbräuhaus in Munich, which was built over 400 years ago, when the people of Bavaria demanded better beer. In 2003, the company decided it was time for North America to get a taste of authentic Bavarian culture, and so the first franchise location was opened in Newport, Kentucky.

Each location features authentic food, beer and live entertainment. The menu includes authentic German food, such as schnitzel and bratwurst, as well as some American staples with a German twist. All locations in the U.S. serve authentic premium beer, either imported from Munich or brewed on-site. The beer is brewed according to the German purity law, Reinheitsgebot, using only barley, yeast, hops, and water. Each Hofbräuhaus franchise location also hosts an annual Oktoberfest to pay homage to its roots.

“No matter which Hofbräuhaus location guests are visiting, they are having a great time,” said Stefan Gastager, president of Hofbräuhaus of America – Franchise & Merchandising Division. “They’re singing along, dancing and just having a great time, while enjoying great Hofbräu beer and authentic German-Bavarian food.”

Much of the company’s success has to do with its supportive network of franchisees, who all share a vision and passion for Hofbräuhaus. Many franchisees also are involved in their communities to help drive impactful local change.  

“The Hofbräuhaus Newport location just celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, and other franchisees came to celebrate,” recalled Gastager. “Everyone is proud to be part of the Hofbräuhaus family. Even over 20 years later, our franchisees are still the biggest supporters of the Hofbräu brand in the U.S. and they have so much passion and enthusiasm. It’s a really wonderful feeling.”
