When Catherine Monson joined the world of franchising in 1980, it was by accident. Hired as a sales coordinator for Sir Speedy Printing Centers, a small franchisor with fewer than 200 locations, she had no intention of building tenure with the company, but she quickly climbed the ladder and became part of a team that forged the brand’s rapid success. As she worked to double the company’s footprint in less than five years, and quadruple it in 15 years, she fell in love with her work. By Jessica Petrucelli

CAMP BOW WOW OFFERS EXPERT TIPS TO WELCOME A NEW DOG HOME

2025-01-20T05:17:12-05:00January 20th, 2025|Tags: , , |

Patience and planning are key for making a new pet feel safe, secure and loved

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Pet adoptions soar during December and January, which means many households are welcoming a new furry family member — and to help make the transition as smooth as possible, Camp Bow Wow, the nation’s leading doggy day care and boarding franchise, is sharing expert tips to help a new pup feel safe, secure and loved in their new environment.

Bringing home a new furry family member — especially over the holidays — can be an exciting and heartwarming experience. During this busy season, it’s especially important to provide consistency to get dogs off to a great start.

“Bringing a new dog into your home is a long-term commitment, and you want to get off to a great start by being intentional in how you help them adjust to their new life,” says Camp Bow Wow Animal Health and Behavioral Expert Erin Askeland, MSc, CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA. “With a little patience and understanding, you can set up your new dog — and yourself — for years of joy, snuggles and love.”

Askeland offers these top six tips to welcome a new dog:

  • Manage expectations – Adjusting to a new home takes time. It can take several weeks or months for a dog to feel completely secure and show their true personality.
  • Create a safe space – Arrange your dog’s blankets, toys, food and water in a designated area so they feel confident and secure.
  • Observe – Learn about dog body language and watch how your pup interacts with their environment to understand their needs and emotions.
  • Take it slow – Introduce new experiences gradually. Plan only one new activity per day, such as meeting one new person or practicing one training cue.
  • Include socialization – Practice controlled, positive experiences with a variety of different people, pups, objects and environments to help build a confident and adaptable pup. Regular visits to a safe, well-run doggy day care can help provide continued socialization.
  • Plan ahead – Eventually, you’ll have to visit the vet, leave your new dog alone or find day care or boarding options. Visit your vet and boarding facility with your pup long before you need them to provide brief, positive experiences. You can also practice using day care for short periods before leaving your dog for a longer day. This helps build familiarity and prepare for future needs.

To help dogs of all ages socialize, exercise and reinforce positive behaviors, pet parents are encouraged to try day care at Camp Bow Wow. Specifically for puppies aged 4 months to 1 year, the Pawsitive Start Jr. Program, available at select locations, offers a valuable opportunity to build a strong foundation through socialization, skill-building and enrichment in a safe and nurturing environment. All of Camp Bow Wow’s programs are designed to set dogs up for a happier and healthier life.

CAMP BOW WOW® GUIDES PET PARENTS ON HALLOWEEN SAFETY

Expert shares advice on how to keep spooky season safe, not scary, for dogs

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Halloween can be dangerous for dogs, with visits to emergency veterinary practices up by 12% during the week of Oct. 31, according to Nationwide Pet Insurance. Pet costumes, candy and other fun Halloween traditions can pose some serious risks to dogs, which is why Camp Bow Wow is sharing its top tips for a holiday that’s safe, not scary.

“Many pet parents enjoy including their pup in Halloween festivities but don’t realize that the holiday can be hazardous for pets,” said Camp Bow Wow’s Animal Health & Behavior Expert, Erin Askeland, MSc, CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA. “It’s estimated that thousands of dogs are injured or become ill every year due to Halloween traditions like costumes, decorations and treats.”

Askeland says people can keep their pets safe this Halloween with a few basic precautions:

  • Avoid taking dogs trick-or-treating. Dogs can get spooked by strangers at the door or people in costumes or masks and may bite someone or run away if they feel threatened. It’s better to keep them in a secure, safe space at home where they cannot escape or approach trick-or-treaters.
  • Ensure your dog’s costume is safe. Your pet’s costume should allow for free movement, hearing, vision, breathing and barking. Avoid costumes with small, dangling or easily chewed-off pieces that your pet could choke on. To make sure your pet’s costume is safe, try it on before the holiday. If your pet seems uncomfortable or shows abnormal behavior, it’s best to avoid the costume altogether.
  • Keep candy out of reach. Chocolate, especially dark and baking chocolate, and other candies are toxic to dogs. If you suspect your pet has consumed something toxic, call your veterinarian or your local poison control immediately.
  • Be mindful of decorations. Watch out for decorations that a dog might eat, such as painted pumpkins, decorative candy, faux cobwebs, and smaller items that could be sharp or cause an intestial blockage.

Dogs can have a secure, relaxed stay at Camp Bow Wow while pet parents and kids enjoy trick-or-treating and other holiday festivities. For more information, visit www.CampBowWow.com.

Puppy-focused program helps pups grow into confident adult dogs

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Camp Bow Wow®, the nation’s leading doggy day care and boarding franchise, has launched Pawsitive Start Jr., an educational program developed by Camp Bow Wow’s Animal Health and Behavior Expert, Erin Askeland, and is tailored to puppies ages 4 months to 1 year that sets them up for a happier, healthier future through socialization, learning, play and enrichment.

Like toddlers attending preschool, pups who visit Camp Bow Wow for Pawsitive Start Jr. experience a structured routine that includes:

  • Daily group playtime for socialization with other dogs
  • A rotating daily activity focusing on essential skills, positive experiences and exposure to new objects
  • Cabin enrichment time for puppies to engage in food puzzles and calming activities
  • Designated nap times
  • Daily report cards to keep pet parents updated on their Camper’s progress

The program also offers pet parent education, with informational handouts to help human companions continue their puppy’s development at home.

“Dogs who continue their socialization throughout puppyhood are more likely to be comfortable around other dogs and humans and in new situations as adults,” said Camp Bow Wow’s Animal Health and Behavior Expert, Erin Askeland, MSc, CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA. “Our new program offers a comprehensive approach designed to help young dogs thrive, lead happier lives with their families and have more fun at Camp when their parents are away.”

Camp Bow Wow has welcomed over 50 million dog visits since opening its first Camp in 2000. Pawsitive Start Jr. is the latest addition to the brand’s range of services that demonstrate its commitment to providing the highest levels of fun, safety and service for Campers and peace of mind for their parents.

“As a leader in the doggy day care and boarding space, we designed Pawsitive Start Jr. as yet another way we can further our mission of Making Dogs Happy while reinforcing our commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of dogs,” said Camp Bow Wow President Julie Turner. “Our new program is perfect for young dogs, as it addresses their needs for play, learning, social interaction and rest. By fostering the development of essential social and cognitive skills, we can play a vital role in a puppy’s journey to create a lasting, positive impact in puppies’ lives and offer support to pet parents.”

The Pawsitive Start Jr. program has been successfully tested at select Camp Bow Wow locations and will be rolling out to additional Camps across North America over the coming months. Camp Bow Wow Unleashes Lucrative Incentives for New Franchise Owners to Join the Pack as Part of 2024 Growth Strategy

Leading pet care brand sets prospective multi-unit franchise owners up for success amid impressive growth trajectory with robust 2024 Incentives Program

CARROLLTON, Texas — Camp Bow Wow, the premier doggy day care and boarding franchise, is offering cash incentives for new franchise signings as the brand targets an aggressive growth strategy. Eligible franchise candidates that sign through December 31, 2024, will receive a 50% reduction in Royalty Fee rate and a waiver of the Minimum Monthly Royalty during the first 12 months of operations, as well as a one-time $5,000 credit towards the Project Management Fee.

The 2024 Incentives Program is open to both new and existing Camp Bow Wow franchise owners looking to expand their portfolio, with an emphasis on multi-unit signings and entry into new markets. Camp Bow Wow currently boasts over 220 open locations in more than 40 states, with over half of the franchise network currently serving as multi-unit operators. Both single and multi-unit agreements qualify for the incentives.

“Camp Bow Wow is an innovative concept with significant growth potential, and offering these robust incentives will help fuel an already impressive growth trajectory,” said Mark Jameson, chief development officer of Propelled Brands, multi-brand platform company of Camp Bow Wow. “The 2024 Incentives Program helps foster opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs to enter a booming industry that resonates with their passions. As we enter the second half of 2024, Camp Bow Wow is poised for significant multi-unit expansion as we welcome new franchise owners to the network.”

The introduction of development incentives come amid a building momentum of success for the brand this year, including being named to Entrepreneur‘s Franchise 500 list for the 15th consecutive year and being awarded a Franchise Update Media 2024 Innovation Award in the Operations & Technology Category. Now backed by franchise powerhouse Propelled Brands, Camp Bow Wow has additional support and is primed for significant growth.

“When we started looking at possible options and franchises to invest in, not only did the brand stand out, but also the support provided by the franchisor,” said Michael McGee, who, along with Anthony Jover, opened Camp Bow Wow’s first location in Virginia earlier this year. “We opened Camp Bow Wow Virginia Beach because of our love of dogs, the experience we had had with Camp Bow Wow as customers and the lack of brand presence in the Virginia market when we moved here.”

Franchise owners who sign a current Franchise Agreement for a new territory by December 31, 2024, are eligible for the 2024 Incentive Program. To qualify, franchise owners must meet all required deadlines as defined in their Franchise Agreement without extensions, and remain in good standing with the franchisor.

The initial investment for a Camp Bow Wow franchise is approximately $1,054,000 – $1,719,500, including a $50,000 franchise fee. Ideal candidates have a net worth of $1 million, of which $400K is liquid. Additionally, Camp Bow Wow offers a special incentive for veterans and first responders, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians, police officers, sheriffs and firefighters, which includes a 50% reduction on the franchise fee – a savings of $25,000.

Leading technology brand is actively seeking prospects to open 20 NerdsToGo locations throughout Chicagoland

CARROLLTON, Texas — NerdsToGo®, a leading information technology (IT) solutions and technology repair services franchise for both business and home, announced today plans for its strategic expansion throughout the greater Chicago area with 20 new territories available for aspiring entrepreneurs. Offering a proven business model with opportunities for recurring revenue, the brand is poised to rapidly expand across the Midwest as it continues an aggressive growth trajectory.

The Chicagoland expansion follows one of the most successful years of development to date for the brand, which included the first two NerdsToGo signings in the Chicago market in 2023. Following the successful debut of NerdsToGo Downtown Chicago earlier this year and the recent opening of NerdsToGo Crystal Lake, NerdsToGo is actively seeking qualified franchisees to serve as owner-operators to continue its development within the burgeoning Chicagoland market.

“Being able to solve real-world problems, empower businesses with technology, and contribute to community growth is incredibly rewarding,” said Paul Ongioni, owner of NerdsToGo Chicago Downtown – Magnificent Mile. “Investing in NerdsToGo presented an opportunity to combine my passions and expertise in a way that directly impacts small to medium-sized businesses. I love what I do because it allows me to blend my passions for technology and entrepreneurship in a way that serves the greater good.”

Potential prospects interested in learning more about NerdsToGo and its growth opportunities in Chicago are invited to attend the National Franchise Show on April 6-7 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. Prospective franchisees do not need experience in information technology, but they should have a strong desire to grow a successful business in their local community while developing relationships with small business owners to serve their outsourced IT department.

“Owning your own business is becoming an increasingly appealing avenue for entrepreneurs, particularly for those with a background in technology sales amid widespread layoffs in the industry, and NerdsToGo offers a proven business model and the training and support needed for franchisees to thrive,” said Mark Jameson, chief development officer at Propelled Brands, parent company of NerdsToGo. “Paul Ongioni and Rick Stabile are already proving the success of NerdsToGo in the Chicagoland market, which has seen rapid growth of local small businesses in recent years. I look forward to expanding NerdsToGo’s footprint across the greater Chicago area as we build on a growing momentum of development.”

The initial investment for a NerdsToGo franchise is approximately $133,333 – 181,032, including a $49,750 franchise fee. The brand offers a special incentive for veterans and first responders, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians, police officers, sheriffs, and firefighters, which includes a 50% reduction on the franchise fee – a savings of $24,875.

Tech Industry Leader Forecasts Bright Future for MSPs

Pax8 CVP Rob Rae Takes Center Stage at 2024 NerdsToGo Annual Convention

CARROLLTON, Texas — Rob Rae, CVP of Community and Ecosystems with Pax8, a leading cloud commerce marketplace, recently joined tech industry leaders at the 2024 NerdsToGo Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida. Rae discussed future opportunities for Managed Services Providers (MSPs), and the economic outlook and opportunities ahead for NerdsToGo, a leading IT solutions provider for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

Rae, whose company partners with 30,000 MSPs and 92 global tech vendors, stressed that AI-driven automation will sharpen digital performance and service quality. While the managed IT solutions category is changing, “it is growing rapidly,” as MSPs continue to add new services, said Rae. The future is happening right in front of our eyes, he emphasized, and those harnessing AI and automation will outpace competitors by delivering smarter, more personalized solutions that help customers make more informed choices.

“Rob is an established, respected figure in the MSP space as one of the founding members of Datto, and we were honored to have him as one of our featured convention speakers,” said Jim Howe, President of NerdsToGo, which celebrated a landmark year of development and market expansion. “His experience, knowledge and understanding of the dynamic opportunities for NerdsToGo speaks to the MSP industry experiencing dynamic growth, and the significant opportunities for our NerdsToGo franchisees to grow their business customer base and managed endpoints.”

Additional speakers at the NerdsToGo convention included Sean Lardo, a ConnectWise evangelist, who spoke about the shift to remote work during the Covid era and increased demand for IT support among SMBs. Lardo noted MSP services have experienced a substantial revenue increase of over 70% globally since 2018, a surge driven by digital migration and sustained customer relationships that emphasize the value of MSPs to small businesses.

“By embracing the latest technologies and customizing services based on data and cloud capabilities, our franchise owners can capitalize on these value-added solutions and thrive in a rapidly evolving IT landscape,” said Howe.

Speakers also highlighted ways MSPs can demonstrate real value and differentiate themselves in the market. A recurring topic at the event was the increase in transactions within the MSP sector, as well as the use of data and cloud technologies to enhance MSP capabilities in offering customized service bundles.
