Expert shares advice on how to keep spooky season safe, not scary, for dogs

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Halloween can be dangerous for dogs, with visits to emergency veterinary practices up by 12% during the week of Oct. 31, according to Nationwide Pet Insurance. Pet costumes, candy and other fun Halloween traditions can pose some serious risks to dogs, which is why Camp Bow Wow is sharing its top tips for a holiday that’s safe, not scary.

“Many pet parents enjoy including their pup in Halloween festivities but don’t realize that the holiday can be hazardous for pets,” said Camp Bow Wow’s Animal Health & Behavior Expert, Erin Askeland, MSc, CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA. “It’s estimated that thousands of dogs are injured or become ill every year due to Halloween traditions like costumes, decorations and treats.”

Askeland says people can keep their pets safe this Halloween with a few basic precautions:

  • Avoid taking dogs trick-or-treating. Dogs can get spooked by strangers at the door or people in costumes or masks and may bite someone or run away if they feel threatened. It’s better to keep them in a secure, safe space at home where they cannot escape or approach trick-or-treaters.
  • Ensure your dog’s costume is safe. Your pet’s costume should allow for free movement, hearing, vision, breathing and barking. Avoid costumes with small, dangling or easily chewed-off pieces that your pet could choke on. To make sure your pet’s costume is safe, try it on before the holiday. If your pet seems uncomfortable or shows abnormal behavior, it’s best to avoid the costume altogether.
  • Keep candy out of reach. Chocolate, especially dark and baking chocolate, and other candies are toxic to dogs. If you suspect your pet has consumed something toxic, call your veterinarian or your local poison control immediately.
  • Be mindful of decorations. Watch out for decorations that a dog might eat, such as painted pumpkins, decorative candy, faux cobwebs, and smaller items that could be sharp or cause an intestial blockage.

Dogs can have a secure, relaxed stay at Camp Bow Wow while pet parents and kids enjoy trick-or-treating and other holiday festivities. For more information, visit www.CampBowWow.com.

Puppy-focused program helps pups grow into confident adult dogs

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Camp Bow Wow®, the nation’s leading doggy day care and boarding franchise, has launched Pawsitive Start Jr., an educational program developed by Camp Bow Wow’s Animal Health and Behavior Expert, Erin Askeland, and is tailored to puppies ages 4 months to 1 year that sets them up for a happier, healthier future through socialization, learning, play and enrichment.

Like toddlers attending preschool, pups who visit Camp Bow Wow for Pawsitive Start Jr. experience a structured routine that includes:

  • Daily group playtime for socialization with other dogs
  • A rotating daily activity focusing on essential skills, positive experiences and exposure to new objects
  • Cabin enrichment time for puppies to engage in food puzzles and calming activities
  • Designated nap times
  • Daily report cards to keep pet parents updated on their Camper’s progress

The program also offers pet parent education, with informational handouts to help human companions continue their puppy’s development at home.

“Dogs who continue their socialization throughout puppyhood are more likely to be comfortable around other dogs and humans and in new situations as adults,” said Camp Bow Wow’s Animal Health and Behavior Expert, Erin Askeland, MSc, CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA. “Our new program offers a comprehensive approach designed to help young dogs thrive, lead happier lives with their families and have more fun at Camp when their parents are away.”

Camp Bow Wow has welcomed over 50 million dog visits since opening its first Camp in 2000. Pawsitive Start Jr. is the latest addition to the brand’s range of services that demonstrate its commitment to providing the highest levels of fun, safety and service for Campers and peace of mind for their parents.

“As a leader in the doggy day care and boarding space, we designed Pawsitive Start Jr. as yet another way we can further our mission of Making Dogs Happy while reinforcing our commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of dogs,” said Camp Bow Wow President Julie Turner. “Our new program is perfect for young dogs, as it addresses their needs for play, learning, social interaction and rest. By fostering the development of essential social and cognitive skills, we can play a vital role in a puppy’s journey to create a lasting, positive impact in puppies’ lives and offer support to pet parents.”

The Pawsitive Start Jr. program has been successfully tested at select Camp Bow Wow locations and will be rolling out to additional Camps across North America over the coming months. To sign up, pet parents can check with their local Camp to confirm participation. For more information, visit https://www.campbowwow.com/services/pawsitive-start-jr-/.

Camp Bow Wow Unleashes Lucrative Incentives for New Franchise Owners to Join the Pack as Part of 2024 Growth Strategy

Leading pet care brand sets prospective multi-unit franchise owners up for success amid impressive growth trajectory with robust 2024 Incentives Program

CARROLLTON, Texas — Camp Bow Wow, the premier doggy day care and boarding franchise, is offering cash incentives for new franchise signings as the brand targets an aggressive growth strategy. Eligible franchise candidates that sign through December 31, 2024, will receive a 50% reduction in Royalty Fee rate and a waiver of the Minimum Monthly Royalty during the first 12 months of operations, as well as a one-time $5,000 credit towards the Project Management Fee.

The 2024 Incentives Program is open to both new and existing Camp Bow Wow franchise owners looking to expand their portfolio, with an emphasis on multi-unit signings and entry into new markets. Camp Bow Wow currently boasts over 220 open locations in more than 40 states, with over half of the franchise network currently serving as multi-unit operators. Both single and multi-unit agreements qualify for the incentives.

“Camp Bow Wow is an innovative concept with significant growth potential, and offering these robust incentives will help fuel an already impressive growth trajectory,” said Mark Jameson, chief development officer of Propelled Brands, multi-brand platform company of Camp Bow Wow. “The 2024 Incentives Program helps foster opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs to enter a booming industry that resonates with their passions. As we enter the second half of 2024, Camp Bow Wow is poised for significant multi-unit expansion as we welcome new franchise owners to the network.”

The introduction of development incentives come amid a building momentum of success for the brand this year, including being named to Entrepreneur‘s Franchise 500 list for the 15th consecutive year and being awarded a Franchise Update Media 2024 Innovation Award in the Operations & Technology Category. Now backed by franchise powerhouse Propelled Brands, Camp Bow Wow has additional support and is primed for significant growth.

“When we started looking at possible options and franchises to invest in, not only did the brand stand out, but also the support provided by the franchisor,” said Michael McGee, who, along with Anthony Jover, opened Camp Bow Wow’s first location in Virginia earlier this year. “We opened Camp Bow Wow Virginia Beach because of our love of dogs, the experience we had had with Camp Bow Wow as customers and the lack of brand presence in the Virginia market when we moved here.”

Franchise owners who sign a current Franchise Agreement for a new territory by December 31, 2024, are eligible for the 2024 Incentive Program. To qualify, franchise owners must meet all required deadlines as defined in their Franchise Agreement without extensions, and remain in good standing with the franchisor.

The initial investment for a Camp Bow Wow franchise is approximately $1,054,000 – $1,719,500, including a $50,000 franchise fee. Ideal candidates have a net worth of $1 million, of which $400K is liquid. Additionally, Camp Bow Wow offers a special incentive for veterans and first responders, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians, police officers, sheriffs and firefighters, which includes a 50% reduction on the franchise fee – a savings of $25,000.
