FAMILY AFFAIR

When Tim and Kelly Ross talk about their experiences as Schooley Mitchell franchisees, the word “supportive” comes up time and again.

The husband and wife, who signed with the brand in 2019, are not only supportive of each other, but they also credit the Ontario-based Schooley Mitchell with holding their hands every step of the way.

Schooley Mitchell is the largest independent cost-reduction consulting firm in North America. The company provides small- to medium-sized businesses with potential savings in 13 categories, including electronic payment processing, small parcel shipping and waste disposal.

The brand has afforded the Rosses substantial recurring revenue, geographical freedom and the work-life balance they were seeking. Tim had worked in upper management with major retailers for more than 28 years and was tired of the long hours and stress. Kelly, a stay-at-home mom of two now-adult children, raised funds for the local PTO, booster clubs, chambers of commerce and other groups in their northern Texas community outside of Dallas.

The couple decided they wanted to work together and spend time with their daughter and her family in Florida and their son, whose Navy career could take him anywhere.

“We were married long enough that we recognized our strengths and how we would be able to play off each other while respecting what each of us was individually great at,” Kelly said.

A franchise broker helped the Rosses narrow the field of opportunities.

Schooley Mitchell appealed to Tim’s background in corporate America, where overcharges and mistakes were common. It also spoke to Kelly’s skills in marketing and building relationships.

Schooley Mitchell franchisees review their clients’ contracts and bills, helping them understand where they are losing time and money. The brand’s no-risk policy was another draw for the Rosses because it attracts clients who pay only if savings are found.

In February 2019, the couple attended the brand’s weeklong training. Prior to opening, they were assigned a coach for weekly calls and 24/7 availability. Training and support are unparalleled and ongoing, they said.

“Schooley Mitchell is very supportive of how you want to run your business,” Tim said. “They’re very supportive based on what your strategies and your goals are. The support exceeds our expectations.”
