After separating from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1993, Scott Colbert worked in a variety of industries – manufacturing, construction and corporate management included – until he discovered Paul Davis Restoration through a program offered by the International Franchise Association, which provides discounted franchise fees to veterans.
“When I dug deeper, I discovered what an outstanding company it was and quickly made the decision to become a part of the Paul Davis team,” Colbert said.
Specializing in restoring residential and commercial properties damaged by fire, water, storms, mold, and other disasters for more than 55 years, the company aligned with Colbert’s values of readiness and responsibility.
“I was always taught to take care of others, so I think my military service was simply an extension of who I am and how I was raised,” Colbert said.
Referring to the Corps’ motto of “Semper Fi,” which translates to “Always Faithful,” Colbert credits his military training with helping him form a solid foundation for his Paul Davis Restoration of North Country, New York, which has garnered much success since launching operations nearly 11 years ago. Serving customers throughout central and northern New York State, primarily along the Interstate 81 corridor, Colbert has grown his business to include more than 10 employees and at least four trucks and vans on the road every day.
“I enjoy knowing that others are counting on me to deliver,” Colbert said. “My military career shaped my thinking. It improved my problem-solving skills, my ability to understand, coach and counsel others, and my ability to develop a team that puts the mission first.”
A one-stop disaster mitigation and restoration company that grew over the past year to encompass cleaning services for biohazards, such as COVID-19, Paul Davis is quickly approaching 350 independently owned franchises in both the U.S. and Canada and was recognized in the industry as one of The Best Franchises to Open in 2021.
“What most excites me about this industry are the people we serve, both customers and our employees,” Colbert said. “It’s rewarding to watch our young teammates grow and gain confidence in their abilities as they train and work with us and serve our customers.”
