After experiencing years of poor service and having low-quality mosquito products administered throughout his yard, Nick Spencer knew he needed to make a change in the pest-control industry. Spencer put his extensive marketing and business management background to good use and created Mosquito Mary’s, a family operated mosquito, tick and flea control business that puts families, their pets and the environment first.

Spencer, CEO and founder of Mosquito Mary’s, shared that his business was so popular after opening in 2019 that it started franchising a year later. In less than two years, the brand has opened eight locations on the East Coast and in Texas and has earned several awards and recognitions, including being named one of the fastest-growing franchises of 2021 by Franchise Gator. As noteworthy as these accomplishments are, Spencer beams with pride when he talks about something he said is even more important: his franchisees.

“The real success, achievement and growth have been made by the wonderful people who have joined our family over the last year. Their input and experiences have refined our systems and allowed for different perspectives, so much so that our flagship territory has seen a near 700% growth rate over the last year,” Spencer said.

While many businesses have struggled in the pandemic, Mosquito Mary’s has thrived. The brand’s dependable, mobile-based concept has been a game-changer, especially for those looking for a flexible business that promotes a healthy work-life balance.

“We saw incredible growth in all our territories with a worldwide pandemic happening, which is probably the strongest case for starting a business in this sector,” Spencer said. “The flexibility of not having to work out of industrial/commercial space unless desired gives our franchisees the time to scale at a rate they are comfortable with. At the same token, experienced business owners and investors will see the benefits of scaling aggressively with a working, effective system in place.”

As a pest-control company that serves thousands of residential and commercial customers, Mosquito Mary’s ensures that franchise owners feel “comfortable and confident” with every aspect of the business, Spencer explained. The brand’s knowledgeable staff, including franchise-development coaches, provides extensive support with lead generation, marketing and customer retention, and its state-of-the-art training platform and database offer ongoing remote learning experiences and support documents.

“We have both initial and ongoing training/support for all our franchisees. Our Mosquito Mary’s University was created on the same platform that colleges, such as the University of Michigan, use for online courses and scheduling, and we are constantly refining our curriculum. In addition, we have a knowledge base with various resources (from FDD agreements to software courses, training documents and more) available anytime the franchisee needs a quick reference or to strengthen their own knowledge base,” he added.

With one of the lowest entry and recurring fees in the industry and prime territories available, Mosquito Mary’s welcomes prospective franchise owners who are ambitious and passionate about making a difference in their communities. Prior pest-control experience is not necessary.
