If manning a brick-and-mortar operation for long hours does not fit your dream of business ownership, don’t be discouraged. As many franchise owners can attest, you don’t have to be tied to a storefront or an office to generate revenue, and customers don’t always have to come to you.
For example, Honest Abe Roofing’s teams of experts not only inspect roofs, but also present product selections and generate estimates entirely from their customers’ houses. Such field-based project proposals are a more attractive option for many who would rather work remotely than behind a store counter.
“We have an in-home presentation we give. We typically sit inside or in the back yard,” says Clay Cain, a franchise owner from Lafayette, Indiana.
While Cain chooses to participate in field-based roles himself, most franchise owners hire teams to perform these tasks. This frees up a franchise owner to manage and build the business.
That’s why the franchise doesn’t require candidates to have roofing experience, but instead seeks those with strong sales backgrounds and the ability to build top-performing teams.
Honest Abe Roofing has created a successful business model for franchise owners by carving out large territories that generate millions of dollars in revenue per year for top producers. Cain says he is on track to generate $2 million for the year.
“Any market in this country can generate $10 million a year in any territory we divvy out,” says Jason Revere, Honest Abe’s vice president of business development. “In order to do that, a franchisee has to have big aspirations.”
