Jesse and Dan Holloway have always shared a passion for fitness. So when the brothers discovered MADabolic, the industry’s first and only strength-driven interval training franchise, they quickly became hooked on the science-backed concept.

“I was blown away by the MADabolic workout from the start, because it was like nothing I had ever done before,” noted Dan. “There was a competitive edge to it, a perfect mix of strength and athleticism. It was much more deliberate than any other program I had ever participated in.”

Founded in 2011 by former professional hockey players Kirk Dewaele and Brandon Cullen, the North Carolina-headquartered fitness franchise boasts workouts that are designed to torch body fat, increase strength, and promote lean muscle. The group-fitness setting encourages attendees to push their own limits with challenging work-to-rest ratios, all while channeling their inner athlete.

After a few years as MADabolic members, the Holloway brothers decided to open a MADabolic of their own. They launched in September 2020 in the Pittsburgh Strip District.

“My brother was the main driving force towards our ownership; he spearheaded it and set his sights on Pittsburgh, where I live, because it is a very hip and vibrant area,” said Jesse. A professional chef, Jesse thought he would participate part time as a trainer, but soon became the location’s general manager. Dan, an insurance broker and financial adviser, helps manage the business from his home base of Charlotte, North Carolina.

“I knew it was a good business opportunity,” Dan said.

The brothers said their partnership works because they have contrasting personalities and each brings a different point of view to the gym’s operation.

“We each approach the business differently and I think that creates balance,” Jesse concluded.
