Christina Cunningham, studio manager at Jabz Boxing Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, and Jeanine Maraj, owner-operator of Jabz Boxing Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, both love being part of the Jabz Boxing family and shared their experiences.
Cunningham works closely with Drexel Hill studio owner Shannon Crowley. Together, they set goals and priorities for the newly opened studio. In addition to teaching around 10 classes per week, Cunningham spends much of her time managing the studio’s sales and marketing strategies. She prefers to conduct her work in-studio to keep regular contact with members and provide extra support for first-time clients.
With Cunningham’s efforts, community engagement is high at Jabz Boxing Drexel Hill, and it only continues to grow. “I especially love seeing our founding members welcome new clients with open arms. That can do a lot for first-timers who are uneasy or intimidated by trying a new workout,” Cunningham said. While the studio hosted its grand opening this fall, it has already seen an outpouring of support, like members organizing a raffle to benefit a client diagnosed with cancer. “The sense of accountability and family here is already greater than I could have imagined. It keeps me motivated every day, and I am excited to see our studio family continue to grow.”
Long-time fitness enthusiast Maraj was a Jabz Boxing client before taking ownership of her studio. She knew she had found something she was passionate about and began the journey to studio ownership only a few months after taking her first class. She now teaches eight to 10 classes per week and shares business and administrative responsibilities with a full-time manager and a team of part-time coaches, each of whom brings a unique personality to the Jabz Ridley Park lineup.
“There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work in running the studio,” said Maraj. “My manager and I work really well together, and sharing the load allows us both to show up to the studio feeling excited about teaching or taking a class and connecting with our clients.”
Like Cunningham in Drexel Hill, Maraj explained that the sense of community is foundational to the Ridley Park experience. “You walk in the door, and you become family. The experience combines like-minded people and a great workout, and that’s a recipe for a great community. Jabz is truly unlike any other fitness experience I’ve ever had,” she said.
In addition, both Cunningham and Maraj shared that they feel a sense of collaboration with the members of Jabz Boxing’s corporate team.
“I had a lot of prior fitness experience, but the business side of running a studio was new to me, and the resources the Jabz team provided were extremely helpful,” said Cunningham. “I had guidance on what I should be doing and on what timeline through the entire pre-opening process, but I was also able to have a hand in developing our studio into what we wanted.”
“I work closely with the Jabz corporate team, and they’re highly knowledgeable and truly want to help,” added Maraj. “The entire team is approachable and collaborative, and it really adds to the ownership experience.”
