Lou Romano Jr. earned his MBA from Iona College, New York, then followed a corporate path, working in the pharmaceutical industry and specializing in prescription marketing campaigns. But an entrepreneurial spirit compelled him to seek opportunities to own his own business. He began looking into various franchise systems that would fit his post-college capital budget.
At the same time, his grandmother became ill and the family began going through what Romano refers to as “the health-care maze.” This experience sparked Romano’s interest in the home health-care industry, which was newly emerging at that time. Romano, who had a double major in American history, had a heart for serving the older generation, whom he respected and admired.
After looking into several franchise systems, Romano was most impressed with HomeWell Care Services. He was drawn to the friendly, close-knit, family-oriented culture, as well as the flexibility and independence he was seeking in business ownership, with the backup support he needed. In 2005, Romano joined HomeWell at age 25 as its seventh franchisee.
Since then, Romano has grown his very successful franchise at two locations, serving six counties in the Hackensack and Union, New Jersey, areas. “I get to accomplish my goal of owning my own business and have the freedom, independence and financial success I’ve always wanted,” Romano says. “I get to support my family and make a living while doing something good. This is an opportunity to leave my mark on this world.”
Under Romano’s leadership, his franchises are constantly evolving and adapting to a higher standard of quality care. Not only does HomeWell offer top-notch service to home-care clients, the company also offers quality employment to hired caregivers. To attract and retain high-quality caregivers, HomeWell provides higher pay, benefits, and 401k options.
“We are advocates for seniors and employees,” Romano says.
