When considering business ownership, it’s common to have conflicting voices battling it out in your mind. One voice says, “Go for it!” The other, even louder, voice tells you, “It’s too risky.” Paralysis sets in and fear takes control.

Fear is natural with any life change. But do you want fear to be the decision maker? How do you let it empower you versus impede you?

To make sure you have the right mindset, follow this ABC model:

A: Acknowledge

Acknowledge that considering business ownership can produce a great deal of emotion. Managing all those emotions requires strategic and tactical decision making.

  • Learn about the best practices of being a business owner.
  • Identify the reason why you started down this path.
  • Acknowledge the need to stay on course to achieve your vision.

B: Base Knowledge

Knowledge helps reduce fear. The knowledge you gain will put you in a stronger position for success. Ask questions, gain knowledge, and evaluate the business model. In addition, it is important to understand that it’s not possible to get all your questions answered; however, it is possible to get enough of your questions answered to make an informed decision.

C: Courage & Decisiveness

As a business owner, you will have a series of decisions to make. Letting fear paralyze your decision making can create frustration and minimize your confidence. It’s important to learn the art of progression.

Not making a decision, is making a decision not to progress. Managing fear is a learned skill and takes practice.

Develop the skill of progression versus paralysis. The more decisions you make, the more progress you will realize. The more you venture out, the more you increase your confidence. As your confidence builds, the more you will realize you are courageous, capable, smart, and resourceful.

Think about your current courageous decision.

How will you choose to manage that decision?

You can choose to let that challenge control you and have paralysis OR choose to have progression, and build your confidence and courage to achieve success.
