Skilled care is what sets BrightStar Care® apart from the competition. Shelly Sun, founder and CEO of the renowned brand, desired to create a company that offers comprehensive home health care. Before BrightStar Care, it was impossible to find a home health-care agency that offered both non-medical and skilled care. With the brand’s wide range of services, franchisees offer care that focuses on daily activities – such as scheduling, babysitting and meal planning – as well as medical care – such as wound care, physical therapy and medication management – by a health-care professional.

Before opening her Las Vegas BrightStar Care franchise, Becky Torrez began looking for a brand she was passionate about that provided a return on her investment. Her interest in home health care was reinforced after she returned from a trip to Italy. While visiting family, Torrez was struck by the level of care Italians provided their aging family members compared to the care offered by Americans.

“It’s so different there, where you’re right next door to Mom and Dad. Everyone takes care of each other,” Torrez shared.

After returning home, Torrez began exploring home care franchise ownership, hoping to provide greater support to seniors in the U.S. She was immediately drawn to BrightStar Care because she didn’t feel like she was being sold a product. The executive team was interested in her leadership qualities, ethos and passion for providing health-care to her community.

Through conversations with existing franchisees, Torrez learned how BrightStar Care works closely with owners offering comprehensive support, and she also became aware of the brand’s thoughtfully constructed business model. “I remembered thinking, ‘If I don’t buy BrightStar, I’m going to have to compete with them,’” she said.

BrightStar Care continues to be recognized for its outstanding work. For the 10th consecutive year, BrightStar Care has been awarded the Enterprise Champion for Quality Award by The Joint Commission, the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare.
