As a sales manager for a residential roofer in Austin, Texas, Toby Brodie was leading a team that was crushing it in sales, almost doubling the revenue from the year before. Proud of his growth, Toby often called his father, Calvin Brodie, to share his successes. It was during one of these calls that Calvin, a fitness and health fanatic, expressed his excitement for his son’s growth and then asked a valid question: “Are you taking the time to work out and stay healthy?”

Shortly after, at a Sunday service at Toby’s local church, he connected with a friend who just started a BODY20 franchise and invited Toby to take a look. “I thought I was in halfway-decent shape, but, man, I was so exhausted from the workout,” recalled Toby. “I’ve never experienced anything like it; I could tell I had worked my muscles in a way they had never been worked before, so I kept coming back. Also, as part of the workout, I used the InBody scan, which gave me a baseline for accountability. The technology helped me track my results which came quickly. I was sold!”

Toby immediately reached out to his father and encouraged him to be his business partner. Initially investing in multiple BODY20 locations, the duo recently expanded the investment to include additional licenses and plans to grow their roster of franchise locations across their home state of North Carolina.

“We’ve always been close,” said Toby. “My dad was my best man at my wedding. My dream has always been to be in business with my dad from the age of 12, when I started working for him on construction projects.” Toby has chosen a hands-on approach as the manager and contractor on new build-outs, while his father is in an advisory and financial investment role.

For Toby, the experience of working with his father has been rewarding. “It never feels like work, you know? It’s really enabled us to enhance our relationship,” he said.
