BELFOR, the largest property restoration company in the world, is the parent company of 13 franchise brands including Blue Kangaroo Packoutz, a comprehensive contents restoration franchise. According to Ken Osness, vice president of franchise development for BELFOR Franchise Group, Blue Kangaroo Packoutz has taken an innovative approach to the post-disaster industry by pairing cleaning and restoration services all in one.

When a homeowner or business experiences fire, water or mold damage, all the contents of a room or building need to be removed. To the home or property owner, most of the damaged items will have some monetary or sentimental value.

When Blue Kangaroo Packoutz begins its contents restoration process, each task is assessed. Then, all salvageable items are inventoried, packed, cleaned and safely stored. The items are then moved back into the property when the home or business owner is ready. The restoration process is completed with industry-leading tools, compassion for clients and dedication to excellent service.

A moving company or restoration company would normally handle processing the contents, but neither of these types of businesses typically have experience in the detailed process of cleaning personal items or have access to the proper storage facilities to keep the items safe. Additionally, the process of billing the insurance company is not usually within their scope of expertise. This is where Blue Kangaroo Packoutz shines, by providing a niche service in an industry that has been underserved.

Work referrals can come from the parent and sister companies, as well as many restoration contractors in the area. Since property restoration companies will have to fix the floors, walls, ceilings or other structural elements of a damaged house or building, this may involve working with sewage or mold. Owners may also have to be available around the clock, not to mention they’re working in a highly competitive industry.

Contents restoration is scheduled Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., leaving more time for the franchisee to spend with family or complete other activities. Another bonus for franchise owners is that they get paid each step of the way by the insurance company because contents restoration is covered.

According to Osness, Blue Kangaroo Packoutz now has awarded 110 territories, and the company plans to continue this exponential growth.
