Assisting Hands® Home Care is a leading nonmedical in-home care agency providing seniors and other homebound individuals with exceptional service and personalized attention. Founded in 2006, the brand prides itself on the training and support it offers to the Family of Franchise Owners, or FOFO®.

“We fell in love with Assisting Hands,” said Brittany McCleary, who, with her husband, Matt, owns an Assisting Hands in Mansfield, Texas.

The McClearys were longtime teachers when the pandemic disrupted the 2020-21 school year. “Things were not as they used to be,” Brittany said. “It was very difficult.”

Matt had always wanted to run his own business, so the couple decided to work together. A franchise consultant suggested senior care. “We love people, and we knew we wanted something in the service industry,” Brittany said.

The McClearys also appreciated the guidance and support offered by Robbie McCullough, their area representative. McCullough, who is a franchise owner in Texas, met with the McClearys in December 2021, explained the industry and helped them determine if Assisting Hands was a good fit.

“He was a built-in support system and held our hand through the entire process,” Brittany said.

McCullough and the Assisting Hands team walked the McClearys through the purchase and August 2022 opening of their franchise. Training consisted of a week of classroom instruction in Miami and a week of live training at an established franchise in Texas. They were taught every part of the business, Brittany said, from getting appointments to setting up an office. Corporate handles social media and other marketing, as well as job descriptions and best practices for hiring.

“They have a template for everything, and provide custom marketing services,” Brittany said.

McClearys’ first employee was a scheduler, and they now have an office staff of five, in addition to about 75 caregivers who were trained and certified through Assisting Hands University.

The brand is scalable, and the McClearys are eyeing a second territory. They also hope their daughters, ages 11 and 6, will someday run the business.

“If I had known how wonderful it would have been, we would have done this even earlier,” Brittany said. “I couldn’t imagine going with anyone but Assisting Hands.”
