One year ago, Local Handyman, a brand that deploys skilled professionals to help homeowners improve and maintain their homes, was just a team of four – only one more than the three who took over the brand after its acquisition in 2023. Today, it has grown into a team of 19, including newly appointed National Director for the U.S., Brett Zabek, MBA, who is based in North Carolina and has a passion for building exceptional operations.
This expansion is no accident; it’s the result of explosive franchise growth across North America. In 2025 alone, Local Handyman has sold over 100 territories in its first full year in the U.S., while its Canadian locations also continue to thrive.
“This kind of growth demands deep, meaningful support, and that’s exactly what our growing team is built to deliver,” explained Colin Sprake, CEO. “The majority of our hires over the past year have been brought in solely to serve, mentor and elevate our success partners.”
Additionally, part of Local Handyman’s success can be attributed to how it treats its owners.
“We don’t just call them franchisees. We call them success partners because we believe words have energy. When someone joins us, they’re not just buying into a system – they’re stepping into their own success story. And when you start with that intention, everything shifts,” said Sprake.
“We recently had a franchise attorney remark, ‘This is the first franchise agreement I’ve ever seen where the success of the franchisee is clearly tied to the success of the franchisor.’ That’s because it is,” Sprake added.
For Sprake and Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer Nathan Neels, this business is deeply personal. Their vision is to create 1,000 millionaires through Local Handyman and to transform more than 1,000 communities in the process.
According to Sprake, “When you focus on dollars, you’ll have money to count, but when you focus on people, you’ll have countless dollars.”
Local Handyman is more than a brand – it’s a family. With unmatched systems, world-class support and a heart for service, this is franchising done differently. This is what it means to be local.
