When you come from a family of a dozen children, working together is second nature. Misty Carver and brother Dennis Coon had already worked in business together for 14 years when their younger brother, Ben Coon, asked for help getting started in a business of his own. The older siblings agreed – with the caveat that the business offer a meaningful service in their community. They also wanted to invest in a franchise, a business that already had a successful system in place for everyone to follow, including employees.
After looking at many options, narrowing down their preferred industry to home healthcare and speaking to owners from various brands, their top choice was Home Helpers Home Care based on positive franchisee feedback. The siblings met with the corporate team and were impressed with the brand culture and history, which reinforced their decision that this was the franchise for them.
Their first location opened in July 2019 in St. George, Utah. The following year, when the Salt Lake City and Ogden locations became available as resales, the three agreed they couldn’t pass up the opportunity and invested in those locations as well.
Carver, also a full-time math teacher and mom, handles all back-office responsibilities, including managing calls and emails. Dennis Coon, who has an MBA and is active in the U.S. Army Reserve, oversees all aspects of business administration. Ben Coon, described by his sister as being very social and outgoing while getting things done, is responsible for sales, making business connections and working with insurance companies. He’s also on call around the clock for clients and caregivers. All three family members enjoy filling in for caregivers in times of need.
“Home Helpers Home Care really works for a family because each person can contribute his or her strongest skills and assets, making it all work,” Carver said. “Our biggest success is making a difference in our community. We’re able to provide exceptional care for our clients and meaningful jobs for our caregivers.”
