With a growing demand for al fresco dining throughout the United States, the timing couldn’t be better to consider a franchise opportunity with outdoor dining options already built into several of its proven business models.
Hofbräuhaus America, a restaurant franchise bringing authentic German cuisine and culture to North America, offers a variety of formats to prospective business owners – but the ones generating the most buzz now are those that include biergartens.
Popularized in the U.S. as “beer gardens,” these outdoor areas have been a Bavarian tradition for centuries in Germany. Patrons enjoy beer, food, entertainment – and, of course, the company of friends. The ambiance of such social gatherings is described in German as gemütlichkeit, a term loosely translated to convey a feeling of friendliness and good cheer.
Hofbräuhaus America has its roots in Munich, where the Hofbräu brand has been producing its famous beer since 1589. Rooted in that tradition, five of the seven Hofbräuhaus locations open in the U.S. are brew pubs.
The brew-pub concept, offering the largest footprint, includes an onsite brewery that can brew up to 21 varieties of beer. It includes a biergarten as well as a “bier hall” sprawled across 15,000 sf. A biergarten is also a feature in the large restaurant model, which boasts the same seating capacity but not the brewery. The initial investment starts at $5.7 million for the brew pub and $3.6 million for the large restaurant model.
