FAMILY AFFAIR
Married Renew Medic owners Robert and Narda Johnson have nothing but good things to say about running a business together. Bringing their nephew, Evan Shepard, into the business 10 years ago has also resulted in great success for the family.
“Evan has proven to be a valuable asset, and he’ll take over the whole business one day,” explained Robert.
Coming from an engineering background, Robert embraced opportunities in control design fresh out of college and moved on to work with family members in the bridge construction industry.
“I had the opportunity to do bridge construction for my family on my mother’s side, but it turned out to be too much travel for me,” said Robert. “After that, I got into HVAC work, which led me to Furniture Medic and then Renew Medic.”
Renew Medic specializes in advanced restoration services, working closely with insurance carriers, claims adjusters, contractors and property owners to avoid the full replacement of cabinets following damages ranging in scale and complexity. In addition to a commitment to quality deliverables, Renew Medic has a strong reputation for cost efficiency and expedited repairs.
With a successful background working in a family business, Robert’s decision to establish and run his own business with his wife and nephew came naturally. Shepard, who serves as project manager, has been working with his uncle since graduating high school. Even though he has faced higher expectations from his family than others, the experience has been a positive one for him.
“Family has your best interests in mind,” said Shepard.
Both Johnson and Shepard have found Renew Medic’s model and support structure to be very thorough and effective.
“My experience with Renew Medic so far has been very pleasant,“ said Shepard. “I met many new and supportive team members at our first conference in Memphis, Tennessee, this year, and various team members from the franchise’s home office continue to offer guidance as needed.”
With the goal to expand the business, Shepard and Johnson are eager to grow their team, and they take this task very seriously.
“It is important to surround yourself with a good team,” said Shepard. “You are only ever going to be as good as the people you surround yourself with.”
