Robert Webre places great importance on self-defense training. After being bullied as a child, he was driven to martial arts to learn how to defend himself. A sixth-degree black belt in Taekwondo and a certified Krav Maga and a licensed firearms instructor, Webre has spent over 20 years sharing his knowledge of self-defense with scores of clients in his home-base of Houston. He always contemplated bringing his curriculum to a broader audience, and in 2016 he did just that – titling his vision Silverback Self Defense. The concept brings customized, on-site self-defense training to individuals, groups, and corporations. After finding success, Webre is now franchising the brand, partnering with military, first responders, and other martial artists to bring Silverback Self Defense across the country.

“We’ve taken the best techniques from multiple disciplines and are using them to address a specific need and help people feel safe,” Webre said. “Just last week we visited a company that has 35 outside salespeople, one of which was recently attacked. They hired us to do a seminar on parking lot safety, and we delivered a presentation that taught employees exactly what to do in such a situation.”

Built to assist large corporations, bonding employees with team-building exercises, Silverback Self Defense launched by calling upon Fortune 500 companies, hosting large seminars for their staffers. The global pandemic shifted that model, opening the business up to allow more private, personalized training.

“COVID gave us a unique opportunity to become a customized in-home self-defense training company,” Webre said. “We have widened the concept to include individuals currently working from home and families who want to educate themselves in the art of self-defense.”

The best part of the franchise? It’s entirely mobile.

“There’s no storefront, no rent or overhead. Our business goes to the customer. The only requirement is to have a wrapped vehicle that serves as a rolling advertisement.”

To grow his franchise, Webre is currently seeking military members and first responders who want to continue to protect and serve.

“If you have a passion for changing people’s lives, Silverback Self Defense is for you,” he concluded. “We’re redefining what people think of self-defense and inspiring confidence in the process.”
