There are several residential and commercial franchise brands in the painting industry. To distinguish a brand from others, it must offer something unique, and that is exactly what Painter Bros has accomplished.

“When people think of the painting business, they immediately think: ‘men, painting and laborers.’ Our model is vastly different, which attracts so many female business owners,” explained Bailey Rayner, chief development officer.

Rayner was brought in by Paint Bros Founder and CEO Zach Tanner to rebrand it and make it more appealing to Fortune 500 customers.

“Zach and I worked together for several months in software development and rebranding. He felt I was a great fit for the next phase of the business. I started as the brand manager and worked with him and the team to grow the business,” she said.

In addition to Rayner’s corporate role, she is a franchise owner, which has provided her with a comprehensive understanding of the business from multiple perspectives. Painter Bros’ rebranding has transformed it into a more professional and polished company, cultivating a fun, hardworking culture that empowers franchisees to embrace a rewarding work-life balance.

“With the rebrand, not only did we start to appeal to women, but women, particularly, feel invited in and safe seeing other women owners,” she said. “Fifty percent of our national accounts team is women!”

According to Rayner, the changes to Painter Bros have been revolutionary, driving significant growth for the brand and offering even greater opportunities to franchisees. “Zach has redesigned how the business operates: securing national accounts with leading Fortune 500 companies, offering additional services, such as contracting and remodeling, epoxy floor coating, residential repairs/maintenance, pressure washing and drywall installation and creating a culture that attracts nontraditional owners to the trades.”

As a result, one of Painter Bros’ leading franchisees is a woman who was previously in the beauty industry. While some of her biggest clients are from that industry, she has gone from beautifying faces to beautifying spaces.

“She really enjoys being able to help customers improve the spaces they live and work in,” said Rayner. “No one comes here because they’re excited about painting. They like the opportunity, lifestyle and culture.”
