Jabz Boxing, established in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 2012, has grown to 20 locations in Arizona and two locations in the Philadelphia metro area. As a boutique fitness boxing studio known for its intense full-body, circuit-style workouts, Jabz Boxing’s mission is to cultivate an empowering community to help members of all ages and fitness levels achieve their goals.
Natalie Straub, director of concept and innovation for Jabz, was brought on board in August, 2020. Part of her responsibilities is to develop at-home workouts that are made available to Jabz clients through live-stream videos or on-demand from their library. Each Jabz studio has approximately 300 pieces of fitness equipment to work out with, so Straub has had to be creative to develop efficient and effective in-home workouts that use everyday items members have on hand. Since Jabz studios are currently at limited capacity due to COVID-19 spacing requirements, both existing and new clients appreciate that they have an at-home option if they are not yet comfortable with coming into a studio.
Straub, as well as Jabz members, can’t help but be drawn to the brand’s welcoming atmosphere, dedicated involvement in the community and powerful culture that focuses on overall empowerment. Jabz has created a safe and comfortable environment for all by promoting personal development, friendship, and positive self-worth instead of focusing on aesthetics, such as losing weight, cutting inches, or achieving a bikini body. Additionally, to support this kind of culture, trainers use encouraging words with clients that focus on improving strength and self-confidence, which helps each member become their best self.
Another special feature of Jabz is the variety and effectiveness of the workouts. Straub shared her thoughts on what makes Jabz stand out in the fitness industry:
“I find Jabz to be one of the most unique and effective workouts in the industry. The programming is planned a year in advance, and it is designed to prevent over-training by designating each day of the week with a muscle group focus. And while we’re boxing-inspired, the focus is never on fighting. Fitness, empowerment, strength, and community [are] what [drive] our trainers and members, and every studio experience is friendly and inviting but never intimidating.”
The circuit-style workouts consist of 16 stations, where clients complete two rounds while listening to motivational, upbeat music. As clients move around the circuit, they complete a 45-second exercise followed by a 25-second cardio blast until the boxing bell goes off, letting everyone know it’s time to move on to the next station. Since each day has a different focus, workouts are full of variety and constantly changing, keeping clients engaged, entertained and coming back for more.
For instance, Wednesdays focus on the lower body, Tuesdays and Thursdays focus on the upper body, Fridays focus on core, while Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays focus on full-body workouts. Straub added, “The workout is fast-paced, upbeat, and you’ll never see the same workout twice, which is great for fitness goers who tend to get bored or plateau quickly. One of my favorite things about Jabz is how accessible it is to all fitness levels – every exercise has a modification and an amplification shown and explained by the trainer, and our trainers are always motivating but never in-your-face pushy or diminishing. The concept is constantly evolving, and during COVID we had to pivot to add an at-home component for our members. Our live-stream classes are just as effective as being in the studio, and our members are able to access a variety of workouts through our video-on-demand platform.”
Jabz Boxing is a unique boutique fitness franchise brand, offering not only old-school style boxing training but also a strong sense of culture and community mixed with effective, empowering workouts.
