Doubling Success
After operating one of the fastest-growing locations in City Wide Facility Solutions’ history for the past three years, David Clinger recently teamed up with Ryan Tomkinson to expand the company’s reach in southeastern Michigan.
“I opened in the northwest region of Ohio in 2022 and had great success and growth there,” Clinger said, detailing his time with the brand, which provides cleaning, janitorial work and at least 20 additional services to commercial businesses. “It’s a model that allows franchisees to scale their business quickly with multiple revenue streams. I appreciate the culture and support I’ve received from the company and other franchisees. When I met Ryan, I knew we’d make a great team.”
Both Clinger and Tomkinson share similar backgrounds. Each has sales and marketing experience, and both were attracted to City Wide Facility Solutions because of its accelerated growth model. After working together for just over a year, they say they’ve formed an ideal partnership.
“We both operate differently. David is very hands-on, and sometimes I’ll catch him out there pressure washing and doing the work,” Tomkinson said. “I love being in the field, networking, but the bottom line is that we both want the same thing, and that’s why we have such a successful team.”
City Wide Facility Solutions has more than 100 franchisees who operate as general managers working with independent contractors across a wide variety of services, including heating, ventilation and air conditioning, window cleaning, floor care, handyman tasks, parking lot maintenance and more. A rigorous vetting process ensures that only the best local contractors are selected, and a comprehensive management system takes the hassle out of scheduling and oversight.
The duo praised the company’s “family-style” environment, which they say is completely supportive of continued growth.
“You can easily pick up the phone and call another franchisee to bounce ideas off of them,” Clinger said. “Everyone wants you to succeed. I realized very early on that I had surrounded myself with some incredible business owners.”
The pair hope to expand in the future, admitting that their one regret is not joining the brand sooner.
“I am truly impressed with what we’ve done in such a short amount of time,” Clinger said. “I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.”
