September marks National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, raising awareness for a growing health issue in the U.S. According to the Centers for Disease Control, nearly one in five children are obese, which leads to an increased risk of serious health conditions, such as diabetes, asthma and sleep apnea.
Medi-Weightloss locations have been combating obesity in youths through its program tailored to the unique needs of teens. The company currently has 100 locations across 27 states and is continuing its rapid growth through franchising.
Like its programs for adults, the Medi-Weightloss Adolescent Program offers clients, ages 12 through 18,
a nutrition plan and one-on-one support by medical professionals. The program offers flexibility and easy-to-follow guidelines for its young clientele. The tech-savvy generation can also track their food intake through an app to eliminate any guesswork.
“The Medi-Weightloss Adolescent Program is not just about helping teens see the number on the scale fall,” said Austin Barton, senior vice president of marketing and digital strategy of Medi-Weightloss. “It is designed to empower youth to live a healthier lifestyle now and in the future!”
Developed by a team of experts in pediatrics, public health, bariatrics, and nutrition, the program focuses on education and behavior change to encourage teens to make healthier food choices, understand portion control, and increase physical activity.
Many franchise owners work in conjunction with school systems and community-based organizations to develop partnerships with this key age group, according to Barton.
“Opening a Medi-Weightloss franchise gives franchisees the opportunity to improve the health of their community’s youth and give back by opening a business that becomes a role model for health,” Barton added.
