Some entrepreneurs discover their calling when they least expect it, and that’s exactly what happened to Missy Dalton who co-owns American Family Bio-Clean alongside her husband, Mike.

Featured on the hit cable television show “Dirty Rotten Cleaners,” American Family Bio-Clean is a medical biohazard remediation company that assists families in the aftermath of tragedy. Its expert technicians specialize in the delicate cleanup of homicides, suicides, unattended deaths, traumatic injuries and hoarding situations.

After working in the financial services industry for 20 years, Mike wanted to be his own boss. At first, he cut his teeth on a different franchise opportunity, and then he was introduced to a biohazard company. Mike embraced it with fascination and gusto, learned on the job and eventually founded American Family Bio-Clean in the Tampa, Florida, area in 2017. However, for Missy, the immediate allure wasn’t there.

“I wanted nothing at all to do with this business, nothing,” she admitted.

But, on one fateful Thanksgiving Day, Missy accompanied Mike on a call to help a family in the wake of a suicide. That’s when her caregiving experience as a licensed doula kicked in, and she sprang into action.

“These people were crying, and they were having a hard time, so I automatically went in, hugged them, told them that we were going to take care of this and that everything was going to be OK,” Missy explained. “And, from that day forward, I answered every phone to be sympathetic and compassionate toward the families that were in distress.”

The Daltons stress that American Family Bio-Clean is a family oriented company, and they’re enthusiastic about sharing their success with others.

“We want to share what we’ve learned and what we’ve spent money to learn with other people. We want to help them realize a little bit of freedom and to help other people at the same time because that’s truly what entrepreneurialism is, right?” said Mike.

Earlier this year, the company awarded its first franchise to a retired military couple in North Carolina. Additionally, for any veteran who buys into the franchise in November 2024, the $2,500 training fee will be waived.
