Hounds Town USA is an interactive doggie daycare concept that also offers overnight boarding, grooming, retail, and a pet taxi to transport furry customers to and from our facilities! All Hounds Town’s policies and procedures were developed around founder Mike Gould’s nearly 40 years of commercial dog training and handling experience. His vision was to create an environment where dogs could be dogs. We keep our buildout costs incredibly low, simply by focusing on the safety of our canine customers, with no unnecessary frills that appeal only to their owners. This has allowed us to keep our initial investment as low as $294,000, whereas similar franchises are upward of $1 million! Our conservative buildout has had no effect on our bottom line, as we are still generating average revenues of $859,005.*
The first Hounds Town location opened soon after the tragedy of 9/11, when Mike realized that many first-responders needed reliable pet care. This was the first of many times Hounds Town proved that the pet industry is not affected by recessions.
During the recent COVID-19 crisis, our corporate team went above and beyond to support owners, through constant communication and proactive business decisions. Similar to the increased demand for first responder pet care during 9/11, the recent pandemic resulted in an increased demand for healthcare-worker pet care. Hounds Town was not only able to stay open but also offered discounts to healthcare workers, many of whom were working 12-plus hour days. This promotion was included in a 45-day marketing plan provided to all owners from corporate, and those who followed the plan were still operating at 60%-70% capacity, even acquiring new customers!
Not only is Hounds Town in a recession-resilient industry with a support team that is second to none, but the business model was formulated specially to make it through economic hardships. We understand that these situations will inevitably occur, so we have created a model that keeps costs low and efficient and gives back to the community, to not only survive hard times but to come out even stronger together!
