Local Handyman is redefining how franchisees launch, build and expand their businesses. The corporate team empowers entrepreneurs to become local leaders while providing complete marketing support to establish brand loyalty. Still, one of the biggest differentiators that sets the company apart as a pacesetter in the growing handyman market is its robust team culture.
“We have a North Star for the company, and it has two different pieces: first, your success is our success, and second, we care,” said Colin Sprake, founder and CEO. “Every single decision within the company is made around our North Star.”
This collaborative, caring approach has helped create lasting relationships throughout the Local Handyman system, from owner-operators to business development managers and general managers.
“They’re all in a group together where they can communicate, ask questions, support each other or share ideas,” Sprake said. “If we get them talking and working together, then it honestly just builds a culture of trust, cooperation and communication.”
Because territories do not overlap, there’s no need to guard knowledge. This allows franchisees to have open, friendly dialogue and share best practices that benefit the entire network.
“They’ve been helping each other with hiring strategies and how to hire effectively. They’ve been very collaborative in how they’re using AI to do estimates and the prompts they’re using to improve accuracy,” said Sprake.
Moreover, Local Handyman is embracing AI agents to complete bookings and other tasks, and the franchisees are talking about it.
However, franchisees aren’t just bonding over the bigger topics. They’re conspiring over smaller issues, such as how to organize the interiors of their fully branded vans. Sprake said they also gather each year at a fun annual convention that started two years ago.
“We open up the room to very collaborative strategies, and they even teach pieces of the convention. They’re actually getting feedback and guidance and support from franchisees,” Sprake said.
At Local Handyman, guidance and support are vital to maintaining a healthy infrastructure where everyone thrives.
